Hi All,

I thought my issues had been solved, based on advise from here and VTF. Unfortunately they haven't.

Based on advice from vtf I have replaced the coils, HT leads, spark plug caps and spark plugs (twice). I also found lose earth that I've sorted. The bike has recently had a new fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and oil and these issues started after I checked and adjusted the valve clearances (I've since re-checked these twice) I've also put new gaskets in the exhaust, and checked the carbs and rubbers for leaks.

The symptoms are the same as before, the bike will idle just fine but as soon as I try to add revs if just backfires. The weird bit is, that if I use any of the electrics it will rev. eg, if I hold the starter down, it will rev fine, if I put the indicators on, it will rev in time with the lights flashing. The main light on high beam improves the revs, but doesn't solve it.

It seems as though there is too much electricity?! I followed the wiring around the bike the best I can to try and I find a broken wire somewhere, but can't see anything that looks dodgy.

I can't get the bike to a mechanics til payday, so would like to try and fix it myself.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. I hate getting the bus to work.

Thanks
Fatjames

I'm not much cop with fixing bikes, but I noticed you didn't mention the battery, have you tried another?

Sorry, my bad. I killed the battery previously (by running out of fuel and trying to start it too much)

So it was replaced with a posh motobat battery. That was about 2 months ago and has been fine since.

I'll stick a multi-meter on it tonight and do some checks, but I'm confident the battery is ok.

Amen to the reg/rec.... Classic.

Monitor the battery volts, rev it up (as best you can) anything over 14V and the R/R is fauty.

Earthing problem.

When you turn on an electrical system (close a circuit) it runs a bit better. This is suggesting that it is finding an earth connection using a different route through the loom.

If you haven't cleaned up your earth points, do so. Pay particular attention to where the coils mount to the frame.

Also try running an additional earth from anywhere on the frame to the battery negative terminal. Use good thick cable.

I tried this one too, but I ran it to the engine casing. I'll try again and run it straight to the frame.

And if not, I'll check over the voltages and get a new reg/rec if required. Luckily they're only about £40 on eGhey.

Ok, I stuck my multi meter on the battery and attempted to rev up the engine. It wouldn't let me, but even the slightest movement on the throttle and the meter was showing a range between 16.5 and 19. I assume that confirms the fuckedness of the reg/rec, so I've ordered a replacement.

Thanks all
