And how fast was it?

Mine was an AP 50 in 1980, blue, crash bars etc. Got 68mph out of it (standard) with my feet on the rack. Also had a FS1e but was nowhere near as quick.

My first moped was a 1982 Suzuki FR50 with a top speed of 32MPH, no brakes what-so-ever and refused to start 99% of the time!

Mine was a Suzuki FZ50, 30mph tops, that was back in 1983
and it was my transport to college. Best of all, dirt cheap to
run.

One of my college mates had a white AP50 which had been
rebored, the claim was he could get 70mph.

AH those were the days Thumbs Up

Most 'peds' in the early days (omg i feel old!) were geared. AP, FS1E, SS etc were geared bikes. I know the trend now is for scoots but surely they were a better intro to bikes?? My first bike was a honda c50 for hacking round the fields, gears, well 3, but no clutch. I think I had as much fun on my 50 when I was 16 as I have on my bike now!!

Never had a moped technically, but I did have a 100cc Malaguti Phantom scooter.

Was great at what it was designed to do, ie. short city hops and nipping around in traffic. Got me to work for 2 weeks on a fiver's worth of petrol and at the time was quite good fun to ride.

I'd probably get on one now and think it sucked but that's progress. Smile

Top speed was an indicated 67mph. Though they tyres were only rated to 60 and the brakes didn't work very well. Cool

I had a TS50X, C reg, did 34mph very very slowly. I soon kitted it and it did 65mph at 13000rpm twice, on the second occasion it heat siezed, bust a ring, scored the bore and did 49mph after that, but it was still reliable. Oh and every time I went off road it came home with 3 or 4 less spokes than it went with.

I traided it in in march and the dealership still have it in there showroom. Its grantham Honda if anyone fancys seeing it! Laughing

Same here, an orange FZ50, I just hope that you did the same as I did and removed the wire shopping basket and leg shields.

I later ended up aboard a Puch VS50D, with 3 gears and pedals, I was pulled for speeding at 42mph but the b4st4rd refused to issue me with a ticket as he said I would only use it to brag to all my mates Rolling Eyes I wish I still had it as it was great fun.

I first got on the road with a an old model piaggio zip which would top out at about 45mph and it buggered up about a week after i got it. I then got a speedfight 2 which lasted me until i was 17, standard it would do about 55mph but i waisted loads of money on it (70 kit, gear kit, exhaust, etc) and it would only do about 60-65mph Embarassed what a waste.

I sold my ped not even a year ago and i've already gone upto a 600cc Shocked .
