 Posted: 19:59 - 19 Jun 2012 Post subject: Reg/Rec connector block |
 |
|
Hi All,
Following on from my previous post I've ordered a new rec/reg for my bike and this evening I wanted to remove the old one and get the bike ready.
As expected, I ran into a few issues. The main problem is the connector. It is completely trashed. It's all cracked and has been sealed up with super glue, some of the cabling is bare and the connector was completely fused together.
There was no way the connector block would split so I had to cut it out. So I have 2 questions,
1. Can I replace the connector, either with a similar one or a standard electrical connector block?
2. The 3 white wires that run from the alternator aren't marked, does that mean they can go in any order?
I've included a pic for reference.
Any help or advice gratefully received.
Thanks,
FJ

The three white wires can go in any order, since it's a 3-phase AC generator.
I would say there's likely nothing wrong with your reg/rec, and all of your problems lie right here. You can join the wires permanently with solder or crimps or you can use a 'chocolate block' connector to fit it up. There's no requirement for a plug-in connector it's done for convenience. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
