Should I punish my son for not cutting the grass today?
Apparently he "forgot". He didn't forget to feed his face, he didn't forget to play some bloody game all day on the PC. He didn't forget to drink all the cola, leaving none for anyone else.
he does a lot of this forgetting thing when he has little jobs to do. Forgets to wash dishes, clean up after the dog, put the washing on.
He does remember to ask for new earphones, credit for his phone, batteries for hand sets.
In my day I would have had a good wack and stopped from doing things.
I could keep him in, but he doesn't go out, I could take his phone off him, but then how would I contact him? I could take his PC off him, but that is his life line to the outside world.
Should I just nag like his mother does, but then he may decide not to live with me and stay with his mother insted.
So how can I punish him? ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

what sort of age is he? If he's at allowance type age you could make allowance payments dependant on x-amount of chores being completed over the week?
Mine gets the naughty spot/grounding if required but also has a star chart with various nic-nacs when reaching certain numbers of stars to encourage good behaviour as well as punishing bad. But he's six.
My plan when he's older when it comes to punishments will be trawling the charity shops for the worst outfits i can find and then threatening to wear them when collecting him from school. Combined with yelling things like "daaaaahling, give mummy kisses" etc. I have no shame so i'm pretty sure i can keep order ____________________ smile and be happy. . . .it gets right on everyone's tits! |

Confiscate that which he holds most important.
A mate of mine once broke all her son's CDs because he wouldn't do his homework. I thought at the time that it was cruel, but it was her way of dealing with him. He caved in and did the homework, knowing that she would never replace them anyway. I would have said "Fuck you, even more reason not to do it now".
But eventually it was that which made me realise: take away what they hold dearest. I used to ground Anita, withhold money or treats ... and she didn't care.
But then I realised what was more important to her was : her make-up and hair products!
So I "grounded" all that - rounded up all that I could find and took it off her - and when she had to leave the house with no make-up on ... she started to learn to behave
If any new stuff appeared, as soon as I saw it I would pick it up and put it in my pocket, keeping everything hidden until she was suitably chastened.

Withhold all his credit except for enough to make a call in case of emergency (i.e., 50p) (?how much are calls these days, I have no idea )
Withhold his "cool" things. If you are the one doing the washing (and I bet you are, cos obviously he "forgets" ) then lock up trainers, t-shirts. Lock 'em up and tell him you will return [some of] them WHEN he has cut the grass. If he remembers to clear up after the dog, give him back one shoe at a time.
If he forgets to cut the grass, then its not so difficult for you to forget to find the key to the cupboard where you lock all the cool things until he has mowed the lawn.
You know your kid better than anybody. You know what he cherishes.
You have to get creative if you're not gonna clump 'em one. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

It's still light - send him out to do it now. If he walks off to do it slowly club him round the legs and shove him to the ground! ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

If he spends too much time on the PC anyway just steal the game out of it and hide it somewhere. When he's looking bored coz he can't play it, tell him he can cut the grass. When it's done, wait a while while you exploit his new-found boredom and get him to do some other stuff too.
Then maybe a day or two later, you found it somewhere.
If he's on the PC all day that's gotta stop, when I was 14 or 15 I bought a ps3 and it consumed my life. Luckily the fucker broke after two years and I got back to living.
Now I've got a fixed one but don't play it much, there's better things to do, like revision or music or BCF or knocking back cheap shots at a shithole bar near where I live. I also have a job (I'm 18 and if you look hard enough, you will eventually find one) so that's a good way to spend time.
You could promise him a motorbike if he does his work when requested. Once it becomes a habit buy a cheap one for him and you have a new riding buddy as well as something for him to do.
Once he gets used to the mechanical labour of owning a cheap piece of shit (this is where the cheap bit comes in) he will develop the skills to be able to perform tasks like mowing the lawn to a greater degree of craftsmanship. ____________________ Avoid HASTINGS DIRECT SCUM
