Up until now I've been using a pair of half height, laced HG boots.
Yesterday, the fabric 'eyelets' snapped while I was tightening them at the bottom.
They are still usable (I just don't lace the very bottom part), but I'm thinking that to be honest it seems that they really aren't put together that well. Unfortunately I've owned them too long (bought them just before I got rid of the CG) to return them, and no receipt in sight.

So, this gives me justification to buy a shiny new set of boots.
Went into the local bike shops and tried a few pairs on.

These took my eye, sporty style but wouldn't make me look a goon with my black leathers.

My only issue is that these (and a fair few other pairs I've tried) seem to not hold my heel very well at all. Length of the shoe is fine, width at the toes is fine, but if I walk in them my heel rises what feels like an inch from the sole of the shoe.

How do I find boots made for people without fat feet? Size 41-42 (UK8).

Hmm, I think a lot of biker boots do have a bit of an internal heel. I'm not the tallest of people and in my SMX5s, I can flat foot both sides of my bike. When I wear my normal flat shoes, it's more of a reach, I can't quite 100% flat foot.

Tbh in your predicament, you are going to have to go to somewhere like J&S / Hein Gericke and try on as many shoes as you can.

I also don't think a size 8 is that small. It's not as if you are looking for a 5 or a 6.

Think I'll probably try and get through DAS with my knackered boots and do that once I can get about easier. Dealers are often nowhere near public transport routes it seems. Plus I look a mug wearing my leather trousers to make sure they fit in the boot.

Not so much the length of my foot but the width/thickness, if that makes sense.

My heel is not held solidly in place vertically in all of the boots I've tried - as I walk along, it's like the boot itself stays flat whereas the base of my foot flexes.

As opposed to walking boots (or my current HG boots that have lace tightening), in which you are forced to walk flat footed.

I don't really want to buy another set of boots with lacing, I'll probably just use my combat boots to ride around if that ends up being necessary.

Thanks for the reminder ...
Need a decent pair of bike boots. I've currently been wearing high tops with the laces extremely well tucked in ... I know I know Thumbs Down

Problem is, general consensus is that Bike boots are useless for walking about it. I'd rather a boot or shoe that protected me ASWELL as being comfortable off the pegs.
Will have to start looking for a compromise now.

I would be very happy with army surplus combat boots if not for the inconvenience of lacing them up. I can't really see how they would offer much less protection than a bike boot, so long as you use tough laces.

Gear lever is fiddly though.

I would imagine Army boots are quite heavy and bulky Rolling Eyes
Did try a set of work boots which had the same trouble. Perfect for walking around in, but when it came to exact, smooth movements they were useless.

The thing is with bike boots is many of them are double or eve triple soled to combat the natural vibrations of the bike and as a result they do take longer for the sole to bend whilst walking.

Also as said above. They are not really designed with walking in mind and I've had a few pairs of boots that, while not uncomfortable, do tend to kill my feet after walking around in them for a few hours when I go to events, or leave my work shoes at home. Embarassed

Take them back to HG and show them, you may find even without the receipt they'll help you out in some way.

Italian branded/styled boot's tend to be narrower, even though not made in Italy these days.

Go and try some Alpinestars Supertech Boots with the inner boot and see if they rise on you also, I would say that if you cannot get your heel to stay put in those you will just have to choose any pair where they keep movement to a minimum.

If the astars fit you, try the smx plus also as they have a partial inner boot system that may help.

Are you sure you're really an 8? Have you tried on other sizes? If your heel can move that much it sounds to me like the boots are too long and you could get away with a smaller size.

FWIW my 2 pairs of bike boots are different sizes, the Alpinestars are a 6.5 and the Daytonas a 6 - I'd say they actually fit me the same.

I agree, I wear a UK 10 but take the 9.5 (EU44) sizing in Alpinestars which fits perfectly, TCX I can get away with a smaller size in their boots but not in the casual boots (trainer types) but Sidi I usually go up to a 45.

Regarding heel lift, this is something really common in snowboard boots and not always attributed to the overall sizing being too big for your feet, the chance that the OP has got a size 8 foot but a smaller, or more slender heel for the boot to cup is quite likely
