Handle bar glue?

The little GP100 failed the MOT.
One of the fails was the handlebar grip, i didn’t realise it’s not stuck on.
What do i use to keep it in place?

They aren't usually stuck on.

I also use hairspray. The pro-vitamin B5 helps prevent split ends.

In the past I've just wrapped PVC electrician's tape on the tube, to make the rubber grip a tight fit when it is pushed on.

In the past I have used hairspray, rattle can spray paint, brake cleaner, cable ties (crosser) and latterly Renthal grip glue.

All have worked well, although I think that the grip glue has probably worked the best............so far

I didn't realise that the grip would be a fail

Go back and tell the examiner the one on the right is supposed to twist!

In all seriousness though, anything that will make the grip a tighter fit will do, Cling film, tape, even the glue you get in a puncture repair kit will do, the get it re-tested ASAP, it only needs to be secure for half an hour!

I have not tried this myself but imagine it would probably be the same for bike grips.

A friend of mine used to work in the golf trade and this is how they attached new grips to golf club shafts.

1) Wrap the shaft ( in this case handle bar ) in a spiral with double sided tape and remove the top backing to expose the sticky side.

2) Dip the new grip in petrol and drain it out.

3) Quickly 'ram onto the shaft' (oh the word play)

The petrol then evaporated leaving the new grip stuck to the sticky stuff. To remove they used a syringe filled with petrol and injected it between the grip and shaft and twisted it off.

This is a one shot deal though. 'Ef' it up and you had to start again with new tape.

Petrol + double sided tape. Hmmm. I know my abilities, if I was to attempt this technique I don't think it would end well. I'd probably be down A&E with petrol in my eyes and tape in my hair.
