If you did Mod 1 & 2 and got the license that was restricted 33bhp, could you say after a year, then do DAS to get unrestricted, or do you have to stay restricted and wait for the whole 2 years as that's your license? Thinking

I'm assuming you could, but wasn't sure...

'Cuz like, i'd probably do restricted test because DAS is pricey as fuck but if I got bored after a year, I might be like fuck this, moar powar Exclamation

Do you 33bhp riders feel like you need more power or is it nice?
I imagine it's a nice transition from a 125

gonna do my tests this year fo sho' Thumbs Up

You can do the accelerated access test provided you're over 21 Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up Karma
Never heard of that until I jsut googled it to the DSA site

Quote:
Riders who reach the age of 21, while still within the two year period where they are restricted to maximum 25 kw machines, but who wish to ride larger bikes need to pass a further test on a motorcycle of at least 35 kw. They may practice on bikes over 25 kw under the same practice conditions for direct access riders. You will revert to learner status while practicing (on a motorcycle greater than 25 kw) although test failure will not affect your existing licence.

So you can ride around on a unrestricted bike with L plates on? That's boss Laughing Laughing

Edit: No, retard me

Quote:

be accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike and in radio contact
wear fluorescent or reflective clothing
follow all other provisional licence restrictions

Yeh it's two years or over 21's.

I had a restricted ZXR400 for a while, it's a good progression starting on something like that then when you get used to the speed unleash the power. It does feel a bit gutless, but the restriction is there for a reason, any youngster who goes straight to a thou is bound to have a bad off.

The only bikes I've crashed are <33bhp, if I had the same accidents on something bigger and without the experience of having ridden smaller bikes for a few years I'd probably be dead.

The wait to pass your DAS is certainley worthwhile Smile

You don't need to do a course for DAS either. You could simply hire a bike, get an hour or so conversion lesson on it and then use it to sit the tests.

Everyone seems to presume DAS can only be a course.

As far as 33BHP is concerned. It's plenty. I reach 80-90mph effortlessly and it'll keep climbing to 100 or 110. You really don't need much more.

Also you can do the restricted test and then sit DAS whenever you like afterwards. More expensive though considering that 33bhp really isn't that bad.

That's called 'Accelerated Access'. You can do it if you're 21+.

Licensing laws are changing no later than January 19th 2013. After then, you'll need to be 24+ to do a full A test.

Oh yes it is Smile
Although you notice slightly higher costs, that little bit extra in terms of power is really nice. When I got me 250, I actually overtook a car! (on the dual carriageway btw) Can you imagine this?! A car! Laughing

I overtake cars on my 125 so one of us is doing something wrong Razz
Probably the drivers, they're fucking shit on my commute Thumbs Up

Cool, yeah, what I thought. Don't think I have any problem being restricted for 2 years, seems plenty enough judging by what's been said.

I'm 22 next month so can do accelerated access Thumbs Up

Didn't realise that about DAS, so I can just hire a big bike and do the unrestricted tests? Surely i'd need an instructor with me to get it o the centre etc? Is it the exact same as mod 1 and 2?

Anyone fancy letting me have a go on their 500? Laughing

Check the local training centres. If you book through one of those they should be able to provide you with one. My local one gives ER-6N's as a part of the training. You might be able to give that a shot.

Passed my accelerated access last week. Its quite rare I think, examiner screwed up the riding report codes so much he had to start again. I went through a riding school and borrowed a CBF500. Although you can just go for the test, I had a few lessons to get the hang of slow speed stuff again - compared to my 250 the wheelbase was different and I kept having to put my foot down because it wasn't turning as quick as I was used to.

I passed when I was 20 but started earning enough to want something a little bigger/better. Think it cost me £250 for about 6 hours lessons and MOD1&2 - worth it imo because they pointed out little things I probably would have failed on.

Just waiting for my renewal now Twisted Evil

You could ride a 33bhp bike there, unrestrict it in the carpark, stick L plates on and bang! Mr. Green
