Been riding an r6 for about a year now, 9000 miles, and enjoying it a lot. Trying to ease off going so fast on the straights and just enjoy cornering, feels like I take corners pretty fast, no chicken strips left on the back or front tire. My question is though, what is a good bike to move on to?

Primarily something that corners fantasticly, fast and well on uneven/bad road surfaces, something which can clutchless wheelie with ease, and something with looks to kill. Smile

The large capacity supermotos are appealling, i'm drawn to the hypermotard. Im not a particularly tall rider(5'8"), and the hypermotard seems the most managable out of the competition seat height wise. It also looks fantastic(I freely admit I am a poser).

I'm open to suggestions though, thats why I'm here. Thanks for any constructive replys.

Done any trackdays?
If not; how about using the bike you've got at a trackday?

Then he'll have a bike of a similar listed weight to his current bike, but with massively less power?

If I'm going to go down in power, I'd hope to also go down in weight.

Having ridden one I can honestly say that it is more fun on a twisty road than a 600/4 of twice the bhp - that is the whole point!!!

I have considered it, and would love to, but its almost 300 miles to the nearest track(knockhill). So its not something I can do regularly.

Thanks for the replys, and yea wheelies on tap is secondary to fast cornering ability on roads that often have shitty surface, and nasty bumps.

Mid sized supermotos! The big hypermotards look nice but they're still big bikes.

Something like a 450 or one of the KTM Enduro bikes make good supermotos.

Fast round corners, wheelie out of everything, look the bollocks and if you ever want to take a 'shortcut' you can. When you drop them you just pick them up again!

And keep whatever bike you've got for going fast Smile

Don't get much smaller than a competition enduro bike. Only a motocross bike lighter and then only by a teeny bit.

I suppose something like a CRF250x is almost streetable, but only for short runs and not much lighter so you're probably right, the competition enduros are probably the smallest you'd want to get away with.

I always wanted to stick SM wheels on my 144XC, but it got stolen before I got the chance Sad.

Also like the idea of a 85cc mx converted road supermoto - however I think this would be more 'midi' than being in the normal range.

Or maybe a DRZ? lol Smile

What you suggested was good advice, and what my plan was a few months ago after seeing this video:

How about a Superduke?

And I'm surprised no one's suggested the Street Triple yet either.

Haha you'd think I'm biased, only towards supermotos in general though, the DRZ is probably a little slow for somebody coming from an r6, and if I wasn't restricted and had a bit more money it'd probably be a Husaberg, TM or KTM Smile

And Youtube just makes me jealous of other people's bikes/weather/roads Very Happy

The yamaha wr 450 seem a good option as well, a friend of mine is planning on getting one.

To be honest though, I think my heart is now set on the hypermotard. I like offroad bikes so keep a specialised one for that.

As in the Duc? I would advise against, its nowhere near as fun or agile as the KTM 990 SD.

More fun, nicer to handle.. only had 4 hours on each, but still Laughing

Hypermotard 796

Speed triple
street triple r
ktm lc4 690 sm
fz8
fz1
monster 1100

probably test ride the hypers and the triumphs. The rest are just considerations.

If I can get a decent finance on it, I would most definetely like a Ducati Streetfighter Smile

https://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/201003/2009-ducati-streetfighter-15_1024x0w.jpg

If not then maybe a superduke, or speed/street triple. I'm guessing the street is better than the speed triple for twisties?
