Hi guys, posted stuff in the general section to little response then noticed this section and thought I'd have a go here

Got an old cb 125 rs (1984) and they bike is idling VERY high with the choke OFF ( not on like i thought before)

Taken it off and boiled it in pieces to clean it, can anyone suggest what the problem is?

Also, how do I free up the rear brake (drum) as it's sticking on a lot and i have to free it up by tapping the arm back with a spanner.

Do you think I should stick some hylomar on the float bowl gasket and also on the gasket where the carb meets the cylinder head?

the gasket that was on there was broken in 2 places almost completely so I've got an over sized gasket to go in place, it's quite a bit wider though so it may have moved when I matched it to the cylinder intake as I had to stretch it a touch to get it to go inside the race where it should sit and it kept slowly popping out.

Sorry if this is all a blur of words I'm just tryiing to give as much info as possible,

many thanks - Colourcode

As Usher suggests, check for airleaks between carb and engine.

The rear brake needs to be stripped down and cleaned up with a little grease applying to the brake drum lever arm spindle as they are apt to seize.
If the shoes are well worn the operating cam turns too far and will not return easily.
Personally I would not use any sealing compound on the floatbowl as any residue could find its way into the jets. Best to source a new gasket
