I have one of the Knox protectors. Its the top of the range one which cost £100. I hardly notic i've got it on, the only thing is it feels a bit weird when i'm hanging off the bike a lot, i'm slowly getting used to it.

A friend of mine has one of those Dainese teenage mutant ninja turtle things, it's really rather good.

I've got a knox one which was fine when i was wearing my old leathers but the new ones are tighter and as the back protector includes soft protection on the shoulder blades it wont fit under my leathers Sad
So i got a knox undershirt removed the back piece and used velcro to hold it in the correct position in the protector pocket in my new suit.It works a treat and is always in the suit so i can't not wear it now Thumbs Up

Does anyone here owe their ability to still walk to one of these back protectors? just wondering how effective they are.

My Dainese jacket has a built in hard armour back protector that I can remove if I so desire.

Ask T.C about back protectors. I'm sure he'd recommend something like the soft Keprotec stuff due to the armour riding up and causing leverage to the back of the neck in an impact. It can cause injury similar/same as that suffered by the late Christopher Reeve.

I've got the Knox rollup one which is good cos it has a bit of give in it. Don't wear it as much as I should though - would prefer one that was fitted to my jacket but I couldn't get any jackets like that to fit.

I use a Hein Gericke CE approved one and its quite solid but not too unconfortable.
They also do a much more flexible one in their hipprotect range that looks good.
Those fit into pockets on your jacket or use their press stud things to attach.

They also do a vest with or without sleaves that can go under anything and has the CE aproved Back, Shoulder and Elbow protectors in.

A friend of mine got t-boned at the fast first turn at Castle Combe and went back first into the armco a short way down the track. He walked away but was pissing blood for a week,i'm sure he would have been seriously injured had he not been wearing the protector.
The guy who hit him went into the same armco chest first broke a few ribs, punctured both lungs and ended up in intensive care.I'd say the're very effective and try to wear one every time i ride.

I wear the Dainese Gilet, which I like because I can wear it like a vest - i.e. not like some of the others which just have a couple of straps around you to hold it in place. It's not cheap (£130) but feels very sturdy. Takes a bit of getting used to whilst walking but once you're on the bike you don't notice it.
