Choice of Chain Lube

I know for some of you this will have been asked a million times and your prob sick of seeing another topic on BCF's favourtie post of all time.. but bare with as I have some individual questions..

so today has been a shit day weather wise so I cracked on with a bit of maintenance after washin the bike after it got shit caked on wednesday night in the pissing rain..

picked up some paraffin earlier in the week and got stuck into some chain cleaning as I wasted my money earlier in the year on some HG chain wax (white in colour) that looks totally shit and when I ride in the rain ends up on my rear seat...

so in short im not using that again, now a few people on here have said they just use engine/gear oil... a few of the local lads use profi "dry chain" lubes...

Now today ive just brushed in some engine oil, and then wiped away the excess with a cloth, however I can see it making a mess of my tyres and frame in the long run, is this the case or does it stay on for long term?

Its either that or I invest in some dry chain lube from HG tomorrow, what do you think?

I've tried engine oil and is splattered my rims, tyre, mudguard etc...so did a can of spray-grease I use on my mountain bike (although it did specify motorcycle use too).
I've been using Wurth dry chain lube recently and found it to be okay.

Same as Andy, Wurth dry... The local bike garage sells it cheaper than Ebay Thumbs Up

Gear oil 85 / 90W, lasts for ages, no fling, takes 5mins to put on with a small paint brush. A 1L bottle lasts an eternity too, I much prefer it to all the aerosol lubes out there. Thumbs Up

Not used gear oil since my old CG125, EP90 and that did fling even though I wiped most of it back off.

Im going to install a Scottoiler me thinks, what type of oil do they use out of interest?

I will be pickin up a small can of dry lube as a precautionary tho, u can never be to sure, esp if im going on tour.

I have a tin of Rock oil chain lube. It seems pretty good.

Also if you spray it on a bit of card it makes a great alternative to fly paper. Smile

Wurth chain lube or wurth dry chain lube. Bare in mind that the dry lube doesn't last as long and its more expensive. I prefer the normal road stuff.

I use Gear oil. Because I ran out of chain lube and have a bottle of oil that I have no other use for Smile
