Anti-EU 'Type Approval' demonstration planned for this year. Thought I'd mention it as a date for your diaries...

MAG wrote:
MAG's National Committee has voted for another day of action to remind those MEPs who aren't bothering to engage, that Riders Are Voters and that politicians are elected to represent our will, and should not impose theirs upon us.

- There is no evidence to support plans to curtail modifications
- We want to retain the right to modify our bikes
- We want the right to choose ABS
- And while not part of this Type Approval Regulation, the EU Parliament has written to the EU Commission to ask that they propose 'warning jackets' for all.
- Again there is no definitive evidence for compulsory Hi-viz clothing, but there is plenty of evidence that teaching other road users to look can reduce casualties.
- We want the right to choose what we wear, hi-viz or not.

Our day of action will be June 24th 2012 and I hope you'll join one of our rides. This time there will be 12 massive demos, one in each of the 12 EU Parliamentary constituencies.

Start time will be 13.00hours, just like September 25th was last year.

The actual start points are being finalised and we'll let you know as soon as they are, but the sheer size of the expected turnout means that we are in the process of securing suitable sites and are in discussion with Highways Authorities and Police forces.

Be nice if they can avoid the motorways this time so those of us on Ls can get involved legally this time.

Hmm, this should be interesting. Plod got a bit caught out last time by the numbers ("fecking loads" at my local one). Plenty of riders took the opportunity to form rolling blockades despite being asked not to, successfully pissing off a few bemused Sunday caravanners and irate Polish lorry drivers.

Prediction: MAG will be all "Ride nice, because this time Officer Slaphead will be there to make sure that you do" and a Motorcycle People's Front will splinter off to have demo rides about the demo rides. Very Happy

Eh, I'll turn up to the Glasgow one for form's sake, but if - although I suspect it'll be when - it turns into another rolling road block I'll peel off and go on a pleasure jaunt instead.

Say hi, I won't be hard to miss.

well, just got back from the demo ride, and have to say it was a little diapponting Sad not many bikes at all, maybe 100-150 if that.

that said, it went well, and there weren't any idiots making the bikers look bad. Cool

how'd everyone else fare?

I went to the M3 one, caught up around Basinghole and followed the group. A LOT Of bikes turned out, and I mean a lot, but they weren't holding up any traffic really. Mostly stayed in the left lane at about 50mph.

I left the M3 before we got to the M25, but it seemed a good protest.

I'm not long back myself.
I done the M6 run heading north.
Around 200 - 250 bikes, around the same on the southbound run.

I wonder what the total numbers are...

South East one from Rownhams was pretty good.

Mostly lane one, but the queue of bikers must have gone on for a few miles cause I pulled off for a piss break and still joined in the middle of the demo.

Good day, Can't see any media coverage on it yet though :/

EDIT: https://yfrog.com/mnj9tosj - photo in the middle of the clump of bikers at 12.30

Leicester turnout was good. Couldn't got a shot with all of the bikes in, this one is okay though:

Saw the M5 SW protest ride, there were a LOT of bikes and you couldn't help but notice.

Inside and middle lane used leaving the outside lane free.

Hope it does the trick, else next time it will have to be all three lanes at 40MPH. Mr. Green

Went to the Leicester one today as well. (can just make out my ER in the far right of J.Ms photo Laughing )

Sat in the first two lanes at between 20 and 30 mph for most of the way.
I made my way towards the front so didn't really see what kind of tail back there was, but it looked decent in my mirrors.

Glasgow turnout was disappointing, we had loads more last year. The organisation was better though, there were explanatory flyers handed out, and everyone kept left. We started out at 40, lost a chunk of bikes up front, then the tail slowed to 30 and I peeled off - even I have limits to how slow I can stomach. Wink

Probably utterly futile, but eh, it was a day on the bike.

This wasn't well advertised, here in particular. Guess it was more of a word of mouth jobby, and I have no friends. Would have gone if I'd have known.

Pointless unless causing total mayhem and disruption.

I write to the Beast of Bolsover, MP, with my grievances. More bikers ought to do likewise rather than riding politely for a couple of junctions.

Agreed.

MEPs in this case; MPs are largely just i-dotters and t-crossers these days.

I couldn't make this one, I was just too knackered after hooning around all day Saturday on my first big bike after passing mod2. Plus Mrs P. was already pretty pissed of at me for "just popping down to the bike shop to collect my new bike" ...

And returning home five hours later.

Can't say it felt like a protest, felt more like just another pointless egg run/excuse to ride en masse tbh.

Your bike sounds like an 8-bit motorbike game with that camera Laughing

Seemed to be a reasonable plod presence at the sw southbound run. Only time I saw flashing lights was when cager + vw on a trailer decided to run down the outside lane, not sure if PC Bike stopped him but he must have been pretty miffed cos he followed him for ages, chap was moving barely faster than the convoy.
