Ive had so many motor bikes over the last 10 years, From ninjas to buells, a drz400 and so many more. Its been fun, but I wnat some thing new again, and want to be able to go up the occasional dirt track, nothing techy, but still be able to do long road rides, so Im thinking a triumph tiger. My budget is about 2500, so I should be able to get between a 1999 and a 2003 depending on mileage. So whos had one, pros and cons, etc? Advice appreciated, thanks

I have an 1999 885i, same shape as the 955i, but with smaller 3 cyl and only made for a year.

It's a fantastic bike, loved riding it, very comfortable on the move, white dials are a bit hard to see sometimes and the dash lighting isn't very good at night. Reasonably economical and the engine sounds fantastic and pulls strongly. Brakes are equally good.

Tiger 885i/995i's are tall bikes with wide seats, you need to be tall to be able to put your feet down safely even with the seat at lowest setting, something I struggle to do (5'10") and the only reason I'm selling mine - I do not feel safe pulling up, it's a heavy bike with high centre of gravity and being on tip-toes makes me uncomfortable, just feel it's a matter of time 'til I slip.

Having big problem finding a replacement!

Pic attached shows height from ground to seat.

Err, no it was a joke! Smile Seat height on Tiger 885i/955i is 875mm, 34.4"

Mine's in a garage for sale at £2250, full Givi luggage, upgraded exhaust (with boxed original) but I'm in Guernsey so getting it across to the Mainland would be a couple of hundred and then you'd probably get stung for VAT. Definitely a bike you need to sit on and test ride to make sure you fit. Smile (something I should have done for a bit longer than I did!)

My brother has an Aprilia Pegaso Strada 650, big single cylinder, great bike, capable off-road, as good as the Tiger in that way, but lower seat height and lighter. Just throwing it in as another possibility. Smile

Does not have the fantastic Triumph triple engine, engine note and smoothness obviously.

For those of you who think your overall height is the issue, think again. My overall height is 5ft8" which isn't considered tall...it's inside leg that matters.

The seat height on a Tiger isn't that tall to be honest...I've tried them, along with a whole load of other 'tall' bikes. The tallest bike, which makes me tippy toe, is the Duke 990 Superduke...

Well if you go by seat height then both the Duke 990 (865mm) and BMW GS 1200 (860mm) are lower than the Tiger. It's not just height, it's width of the seat - and as you say the most important measurement is inside leg. Smile

Basically, you've got to try them.

I found the GS intimidating, wasn't comfortable on it.

Just checked and your DRZ is appears to have a taller seat height then the Tiger anyway, so you'll probably be OK! Lol!

I'm now suffering from inside-leg envy.

Never buy an 885i (1999 model) I had one, a design flaw of the engine ended up causing the crank to spit itself out of the bottom end of the engine. This problem was fixed on the 995i then Triumph swept the 885 under the carpet.

Weird. Rolling Eyes

The Tiger 1050 I tried at Destination Triumph had a lower seat than the Superduke 990?!?!?

The GS600/1200 and the F800 are very low too (but with wide seats for a lardy arse).

TDM850/900 are fairly tall, but then the bike is also top heavy.

The Kwak Versys comes in with a narrow seat, and 33.3" seat height...which is why I bought it in the end. Tall and very comfy. Thumbs Up

Nope - Tiger 1050 is shorter then the 885i/955i, 835mm compared to 875mm, a mate (lanky git) had 995i and bought a Tiger 1050 - he says the new bike's seat is "too low" for him now.

So that should be a YES then...as you are agreeing with my statement, as opposed to the negative... Wink
