Motorcycle training schools ?

What tips can you give me on finding a training school that wont rip me off and be somewhat a stress free experience,what tell tale signs should i be looking for?

Training schools that have their main offices miles and miles away and rent out a single storage container for the bikes etc strangely right next to a major motorcycle dealer is this a sign ?

Training schools that describe their das course as a complete training package in a one off fee ?

Might be better to say where in the world you are so BCF members can give recommendations based on experience with said training school.
If you're anywhere near Milton Keynes then I'd recommend Horizon Motorbike Training. I did my CBT with them last year & did an assessment in preparation for my DAS at the start of the month. Fantastic service, learnt alot and enjoyed working with the guys down there, I know of several other bikers who have also been through Horizon and rate them very highly/were happy with the service provided.

So post up where you are, chances are someone will be able to recommend (or tell you which to avoid) locally to you.

I'd ring around and see if they do free assessments, go to as many as you can and they should just let you drive away without pushing you to sign up to anything. Obviously after they've chatted to you about what they think you need.
From there you'll have a much better idea about them, just chatting to them you'll see if you get on with them, whether they've got a sense of humour etc., some alarm bells might have been rung as well.

Well, are you doing a course leading up to a DAS lesson?

Get a detailed schedule; ask how many hours of actual riding you'll get in each "day" (as opposed to standing around listening to an instructor yak at you); check exactly what's included in the cost; ask who makes the decision about whether you're ready to sit the tests; get costs for further lessons and tests sessions.

And get it all in writing before handing over a penny. You shouldn't have to, word should be bond and all that, but we've seen recently what can happen if you don't.

From personal expirience I can highly recommend South East Motorcycle Training, located near Westwood Cross in Thanet. They're located close to the bus routes as well if that's what you need.

I've done my entire motorcycling training through them and I can honestly say that they're really good school. Albeit small, they have solid amount of machines as well as years of experience.
P.S The website doesn't say it, but there's three of them now.

Hi mate,

I'm from Reading but went the 125 route with no lessons. But from my CBT experience with Lightening I wouldnt particularly rush back to them. Nothing wrong as such as I was already fairly confident but they just seemed to be interested in taking the money. I was on the course with a 16 year old lad and they seemed loathed to give him any help to get him through the training, and he very nearly killed himself twice on the road ride through lack of preparation from the instructor.

When I took my mod1&2 I was speaking to the examiner afterwards (at Newbury) and he recommended bike2bike. I did email them about a possible pre-Mod2 lesson but they never got back to me.

So I self taught and passed 1&2 first time. Unfortunately I don't think we are blessed with many decent bike schools around this area.

Though also don't let my experience put you off riding. I am now with another (better) school and having the time of my life.
