Just saw this on the BBC News website. As I may have mentioneed before when I did my DAS training my trainer Steve said, many years ago, before you pull away from the lights always look left and right to make sure that it's safe to go. This advice has saved my life on more than one occasion and if this article is true then I think all motorcyclists should take heed and be wary at traffic lights.

If they'd phase the lights to let more than 2 cars at a time through (no exaggeration, there are some round here like that) then they wouldn't have pissed off motorists so keen to jump them IMO.

Commuters are generally becoming more and more arrogant to each other. Running red lights is just one symptom of this. Another is users blocking roads by being stuck in stationary traffic on a junction. Stopping in box junctions. Oh and leaving people lying in the gutter (another thread).

Its all rather sad isn't it.

I was jumped at the lights, last week, was waiting to go, lights went green, accelerated off, volvo estate does emergency stop to my left, stops a couple of inches away from me. Had to keep asking myself if I was really still alive after that.

I notice that the BBC news story was illustrated with a picture of the traffic light 'sculpture' that has been put up on a roundabout near Canary Wharf. It doesn't exactly help road safety by totally confusing drivers approaching it!

Hi

Agree with Bendy. Traffic light phasing and timing is being deliberatly screwed up in London to make life less pleasant for private vehicle users, and then they are suprised when people ignore the lights.

All the best

Keith

Something similar happened to me only last week, I cleared
the junction okay but the car behind me was hit from a fast
moving car coming from the left. If I was moving a bit slower
I would of been killed myself. All I heard was a screech of
brakes, I looked in my mirror and saw the car behind me get
hit so badly it spun around. This happened in Camberwell
South London.

BTW, the car behind me was slow leaving the lights, I was
a good few yards away.

A few minutes later I pulled over and realised what had
happened and also realised I could of been killed.

Good old Red Ken ehh, tweaking the lights to fuXoR the traffic situation so more people get stuck on the London Buses that don't get anywhere because the bus lanes are blocked by slow moving cyclists who can't be overtaken because the other lane is stuffed full of cars that aren't going to let the bus in because they are hacked off at having two lanes cut down to one and won't let bikes past them because they don't fancy the idea of anyone getting home faster than them....mutter mutter grumble mutter..........

*deep breath*

(appalling lack of punctation deliberate, for comic effect)
