Well I've nearly sold my 'sports' 125 and with the money I can either buy a car or a cheap 125 (cg etc) to do my test on.

Whats tempting about 4 wheels to me may seem stupid to you guys (and, well, it probably is) No one where I live thinks motorbikes are cool! 'What a gay reason' I hear you say. But when you're 18 it counts for something! Razz All my mates are big into cars and take the piss whenever we go for "spins" when they're sitting in the car with the heaters on and I'm sitting on my bike in the rain with a helmet on Razz

My head says: get a motorbike, they're cheaper on fuel (most of the time) free parking and cheaper insurance and tax.

My heart is torn: I found out yesterday I can insure a fiesta zetec s 1.6 for £1600 a year...which is bloomin cheap considering you can buy zetecs for £800. I do love bikes, but it's hard to love something no one else you know does. As stupid has that sounds it's true.

Whenever I'm driving to work, knowing I've got to spend £3 on parking and more on fuel (especially with a 10 year old petrol 1.6) I'll be wishing I had the bike, but when I'm with my mates giving girls lifts in the rain and shit I'll be glad I've got a car.

I can't afford both.

Sad

Pointless rant maybe, but oh well. Any people who can help persuade me towards the bike? My head is almost always right over my heart, but it's hard Razz

If you need convincing, then you should give up the motorbike. If you can't imagine *not* riding, then don't. It's a simple as that.

On practicalities, the car will win on just about every point. You ride the bike for fun, then try to justify it other ways (fuel efficiency, filtering, whatever).

£1600 a year for something that gets me to work slower, more bored and to sit in a queue of traffic taking me 40 minutes to get under 5 miles

Or £300 a year to get home in 8 minutes and have a wonderful time while i'm doing it

Hmm.. Thinking

Cars are slow, boring and dull.

For £5k you can get a decent car with reasonable performance, but you'll never get insured on it.

For £5k you can buy an awesomely fast bike, faster than pretty much anything else on the road (certainly with 4 wheels that costs less than about £60k) and look awesome. You'll also get insured on it for the same money or less than a Zetec fiesta.

CG's are crap. Do your test and buy a 600 then laugh at your mates in their slow ass cars.

Or buy a car and a bike. Thats what I did.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

But it's impossible to find a quote under £9000 for a 600 sports bike. Things like the sv650 or cbr400 are around £600 to insure, why such a big leap? Sad I would do anything for a GSXR 600 Razz

Anything?

How about pass your test, get a cheaper bike for a few years and build up your no claims bonus and you will find that in a few years the combined increase of your age and no claims bonus will bring the GSXR insurance down a good deal.

Thread titled 'convince me to stay with bikes'

Most bikers who reply just call me a douche

Thumbs Up good one lads Thumbs Up

Although, I'm probably going to stay with bikes because I'm stubborn and you guys calling me gay for merely contemplating driving a car has pissed me off a bit.

Thanks for the guys who actually replied though(:

Haha, yeah that's the one! XD cia or some bull. But oh well, I think the SV650 pointy fully faired with tail tidy and single seat cowl looks good (and sounds porn XD) so I'll probably go with something like that, they are pricey though compared to 400 sports imports...hmmm

It must be hard if you're the only one riding about etc. whilst 'all your other mates have cars', as you put it.

Still, you have to decide for yourself if you want to follow the herd or plow your own furrow and get on with your biking life. This does mean doing your test and getting a 'proper' bike though.. Razz

What do these mates of yours do anyway? Park up in a carpark and put the stereos on etc? Go for a drive-thru McDonalds? I hardly think that's interesting enough to give up on bikes.

I think it would be much cooler if you were the lone biker guy who would always meet up with the others a bit later, turning up after a hoon with scuffed sliders and melting tyres. You could always learn to wheelie for extra cool points..

Plus, if it rains then get a lift. Wink Wink

I've never rode a SV650 or anythign not a 125 but i'm already bored of it/hearing about it Razz

Seems to be most people's first big bike, fair enough if it's that reasonable, but I'll want something slightly different.. Thinking

Want something still cheap to insure and still good MPG
which is probably the sv650
noooooooooooooo

Maybe an ER500, looks sexy

haha, yeah, they do sometimes park up, but most of the time it's a case of going for a drive around the twisty roads at illegal speeds Razz I would say they just like driving rather than being boy racers...

My mates just bought a new car and has said if I get a bike I can be passenger with him if it's raining so I'm on a winner Wink

Do you think we want you to stay on bikes? We don't have a vested interest in your biking career. I can say with some certainty nobody on this forum will care what you do. 'Proper' riders wouldn't need convincing to keep a bike. You still sound too faggy for a bike, not because you want a car but because you are on an internet forum asking for people to convince you to buy another bike. Man the fuck up or fuck the fuck off.
