Good or bad price

Just been rung up and the price scared me so was wondering if its good or not.
It needs the following doing so am told.

Wheel bearings for the rear
New tyre
Chain and sprockets
Brake pads

The chain and brake pads are supplied by me.

Total £330 for Hyosung gt125

wheel barings, no more than £20 (i would have thought). probably cheaper.

tyre, £80 for a semi decent one

sprockets, fronts are £5~ and rears are closer to £10 so round up to £20 for leeway sakes.

£120 + £330 = £450

whats ur budget for buying a 125? dont forget that new tyre will need balancing and putting on as well.

considering the price of 125's at the moment it sounds reasonable. i mean a good condition 125 could set you back £700+ (could! some people do get them cheaper, alot cheaper, but hard to find because everyone wants a 125 and get thier liscence)

No i mean this is the work i need doing for my 125 to pass its mot. I use this bike everyday as a commuter.

oh, thats the cost for them to do it?

tell em to screw off, buy the parts, do it yourself, get retested. simples and probably save you a couple of hundred

Do you have no tools? You could do all the work yourself except the tyre (and chain if it needs the tool), and if you took the wheel in on its own it'd cost maybe a tenner to have the tyre swapped.

for a few jobs that'll take less than a couple of hours max.

you could do it all yourself, for the cost of parts, if you have the tools..

hell even if he had to go out and by the tools and parts it would still cost less! thats including fresh brake fluid, front and rear paddock stands and the usual spanners and wrenches n so on.

it really is a "lets take this mug for a ride" price, especially as it wont even cost them £100 for PARTS, thats £230 MINIMUM labour fees.

do they have latinum pressed floors and gold lined walls by any chance? hehe (not a dig at you, more them)

who are thes jokers? then people in your area can avoid them

Where was this from?

For Hyosung give StartRight in Leeds a 'phone call, tel: 01132453643

Ask them for prices and if they have any alternative.
For example front header exhaust and collector for GT125 is £226 yet the GT250 part should fit for £170 (both brand new direct from importer inc VAT)*.

Chain does not need a tool. Split link is fine on this 125.

Another source for parts, including chain and sprockets is wemoto. For the chain it's not really worth getting the DID (that's from experience). I can recommend wemoto for their service.

However, working on the GT125 you probably will need a paddock stand or you can get away with a couple of axle stands (plus a friend to hold it just in case).

First thing I'd want to know is the breakdown into parts and labour.

If they have a "standard labour charge" for each job and they're just adding them all up, they're being a bit optimistic.

Is it the rear tyre? So they need the wheel off anyway, at which point they can do the bearings and sprocket. And look, the chain's already off.

For £330 you could buy the parts AND the tools (plus paddock stands) and still have £130 left over.
