Weird DVLA Letter?

Hi

I just came home to a letter which reads

"Vehicle registration number: DU** ***" (my reg)
A notification for disposal has been received for this vehicle and I would appreciate your help in dealing with it.

Then it's do you still have the vehicles with a yes or no tick box

Why have I received this? What does it mean?

Assuming the vehicle is a mystery to you then just send it back with a covering letter to that effect.

No? Then tell them so.

Yes? Then it's presumably a clerical error. Tell them so. Wouldn't be the first time the DVLA have stuffed something up.

Yes, it's my bike and my registration. Hence why i'm concerned why they would have received notification to destroy it?!

I've ticked yes its my bike and signed it and put a little footnote askign why and to call me, doubt it'll work but their office is now closed

If it's for your bike it suggests to me that it has been parked up somewhere without moving for some time - would this be right?

If so, somebody has reported it as abandoned and the wheels are in motion for it to be seized.

Is there a number on the letter? Probably worth ringing them......

Ok so either (1) they think the vehicle has been disposed (can you confirm), or (2) they want to dispose of it (can you arrange an appointment).

I've reopened the return envelope and got a reference and phone number, i'll ring them tomorrow and send this off

if it were categorised B then it would have to be crushed, broken for spares etc.

however i am not sure how it all works, doubt they'd give it back to you

if it is a cat b there's nout you can do, is there any frame damage, when you say mechanics, what mechanics ?

cat b's cannot be fixed, this usually indicates frame damage, they are to be scrapped and dealt with by cat b specialists

i doubt it's a cat b if they said it could be fixed

I'd suspect the insurance company first and the garage second. Some third party has told them it's a write off/scrapped. Bastards!

Tell them it's not, by letter (recorded preferably) and phone as well.

Now that you've wound yourself up enough over it, wait til you speak with them. Try not to worry any more than you have over something you can't control.

Not really wound up, more worried. I'm sure it will be fine, they can come inspect it if they want, i'm in full faith it's absolutely fine. THe MOT is still in date anyway
