PostPosted: 16:18 - 27 Jun 2012    Post subject: Weird DVLA Letter? Reply with quote

Hi

I just came home to a letter which reads

"Vehicle registration number: DU** ***" (my reg)
A notification for disposal has been received for this vehicle and I would appreciate your help in dealing with it.

Then it's do you still have the vehicles with a yes or no tick box

Why have I received this? What does it mean?

DONT FUCKING TOUCH MY BIKE YOU ROAD NAZIS

Assuming the vehicle is a mystery to you then just send it back with a covering letter to that effect.

Is it your bike?

No? Then tell them so.

Yes? Then it's presumably a clerical error. Tell them so. Wouldn't be the first time the DVLA have stuffed something up.

Yes, it's my bike and my registration. Hence why i'm concerned why they would have received notification to destroy it?!

I've ticked yes its my bike and signed it and put a little footnote askign why and to call me, doubt it'll work but their office is now closed Rolling Eyes

If it's for your bike it suggests to me that it has been parked up somewhere without moving for some time - would this be right?

If so, somebody has reported it as abandoned and the wheels are in motion for it to be seized.

Is there a number on the letter? Probably worth ringing them......

Ok so either (1) they think the vehicle has been disposed (can you confirm), or (2) they want to dispose of it (can you arrange an appointment).

Nope, it was parked over night when I crashed, then I picked it up the next morning..

Could it be something to do with the crash?

Not as far as I know, the mechanics had it for a while, you don't think they would have done that do you?

Shocked

if it were categorised B then it would have to be crushed, broken for spares etc.

however i am not sure how it all works, doubt they'd give it back to you

if it is a cat b there's nout you can do, is there any frame damage, when you say mechanics, what mechanics ?

The insurance company didn't look at it, I didn't claim on it, and only informed them about the crash, there was no word about the damage on my bike, I'd just have to repair it myself

I took it to one of the busiest bike mechanics in leicester, google you'll find it, i'd rather not flag this thread to them by mentioning the business name f457tr4ck motorcycles

They said they could fix the damage (which probably would have been a cat b) and they did and it's absolutely fine

So unless they told the DVLA then I don't see how they got notification to destroy it, but surely they wouldn't have told the DVLA they were putting a potential wreck back on the road as it would drop them in it?

It's fine though, so I don't get it

Hoping it's just an admin error or something... the police may have informed them when they picked me up as I couldn't drive it home, but otherwise, I dunno

cat b's cannot be fixed, this usually indicates frame damage, they are to be scrapped and dealt with by cat b specialists

i doubt it's a cat b if they said it could be fixed

And how does someone deem something Cat B?

Doesn't the insurance company/DVLA need to look at it?
Is it not the whole point of writing off is that if you claim on the damage, the insurance company look at it and see if it's worth it, whether the repairs exceed it's value - Which never happened as I didn't claim?

"Category B - Motorcycle itself may not be resold. Damaged beyond economical repair, usually with severe structural/frame damage. DVLA require "Notification of Destruction". Parts can be removed and sold."

It wasn't severe, just slightly, as you say, it wouldn't have been safely repairable if it was that bad Thinking
that Notification Of Destruction reappearing freaks me out Shocked Shocked

I'd suspect the insurance company first and the garage second. Some third party has told them it's a write off/scrapped. Bastards! Laughing

Tell them it's not, by letter (recorded preferably) and phone as well.

Now that you've wound yourself up enough over it, wait til you speak with them. Try not to worry any more than you have over something you can't control.

Ring them when you next can and find out then. Best of luck!

My first thought, with luck the OP is not the one with the clone on his hands.
