Hi all,

on 31st May I bought a 2012 Yamaha R1. Sad to say that on 12th June it was stolen!!!

Insurer is MCE - I paid £11,700 for the bike, ex demo.

MCE are offering me settlement of £10k. However I am saying I should be getting £11k as you cant go and buy a 2012 model with same milage etc for less than £11k. Trust me i've called every dealer advertising on autotrader.

Market Value states the cost of replacing your bike with same spec, value, age and mileage. I have proved this to the engineer.

The actual insurance co is Danish though so speaking to Obudsman they cant help.

Any ideas???

Why cant the ombudsman help? You insured through MCE, it is underwritten by a foreign company, that was their choice to save money but does not change their obligations attached

I would suggest the underwriter prices om their local prices.shou;d not be your proble,. Tell MCE you will report this to the ombusman, this will cost them 400 quid so they might just buckle.

Shame its ex demo as this is why you are having a problem on a "new" bike.

So what did you value the bike at ????

Given we have 2 threads pretty much the same.

Perhaps you need to get together and talk to the police....

U wont beleive this but full Oxford all weather cover, disc lock and huge Oxford chain through back wheel and round a lamp post.

They tied a rope round tie a rope round the lamp post to the back of a van and ripped the whole thing out of the ground... I kid you not, it pulled about 2 ft of concrete up from the ground! It was also alarmed.

I could not beleive my eyes in the morning! I was due to go away for 4 days on it that morning to run it in!

Shocked
Why didn't they just bolt crop the chain.

If they literally pulled up a lamp post, then you had no chance. They'll be back in future to check out your next bike, you best be prepared.

You gave the money to MCE, your contract is with them. "Sorry, underwriter no speekee Eenglish" won't wash. I suggest that you read that contract very carefully.

As to the Ombusdsman, you don't ask, you don't get. First though, you have to exhaust MCE's complaints process, so that's your first step.

And remember, the Ombudsman's decision is binding on the insurer, but not on you. Even if they won't touch it or find against you, you can always go on to proper court.

Laughing
That's about the best example to back up the "if they want it, they'll get it" saying I've seen so far.

are you sure you are telling the truth? i've seen truck accidents where they have hit a lampost at about 40/50 and the lampost didn't earth

i find it very hard to believe a transit van can earth a lampost

then again no one knows how big the said lampost is, any pictures?

i'm only doubting you because many people would lie to validate their insurance.....

Yep sorry let me make it clear... I keep doing it, I don't mean 30ft street lamp I mean like one of these 9/10ft no parking signs etc, police have been out to see it and what not

Thankfully it's not my place it was stolen from... Normally it's tucked up in a garage.

WOW!!!!! I was planning on chaining mine to the same thing when I was done with the shite with MCE.. god they're a ball ache to deal with. (p.s. i replied to your post on my topic ) I feel for you mate. If its London its probably the same crew that nicked mine from Blackfrairs, the rat bastards...

So what are the pigs saying. PM me your mobile so we can chat...

Did it have Akrapovic cans on it?! - Look on ebay, they've probably removed the cans and changed the licence plate.. Try and see if any of the ones on there look familiar. If one does try n get the police to go round.. I didn't have any luck getting them to but pigs will be pigs, fat and lazy as all hell. You may be lucky.. But then you need to ask yourself if you really want the bike back after what they may have done to her by now. Unfortunately we both picked the wron Insurance company to get in bed with and are both left scratching our balls..

I dont want the bike back at all. It had full akropovic exhaust system at almost 3k!

Was in the Clapham area of London. Police sent a letter within a week saying they are no longer looking for it.

If you want an R1 in London.... keeping it on a street is not an option. Rent a storage unit from one of those self storage places if you dont have a garage.

Mine was parked in London for one night and it went, I must have been followed.

I'll PM you my mobile
