Had this thought from this thread - asked to dismount.

I wondered if anyone has had any accidents on garage forecourts and what the outcome was.

A bit back my lad did slip and his bike went over on a diesel spill at a Tesco station/express store. Brake lever broke. He went to report it and see about getting it replaced but they made it so difficult he gave up trying. When I say difficult it was a case of "no the manager you need is not in", "you need to fill in this form, no you can't take it away do it here" (IMHO not appropriate in a busy store), "we need to contact head office", etc.

Thumbs Up

It was last year sometime. I don't even recall the date now.
I would have got more involved to sort it but let him try and handle it. After all I can't be doing this sort of thing all the time and he has to man up sometime.

Going to put it down to experience now and hopefully he'll know better next time. Hopefully, forever optimistic I am Rolling Eyes

Just made the thread as interested how common this sort of thing is and if it's also common for the petrol station to fob people off.

Thumbs Up

That's when you call the police in. And if they say they're not interested you vaguely mention intimidation and velied threats of violence made towards you by irate staff. Muddy the waters, fudge it around. Once the police are there it all goes on record and your hand is stronger.

And leave bike on the ground, don't want to move it in case there's a spark, oh, I think I hurt my back too, etc, etc.
They'll soon start to take notice.

Yeah I got thinking about this too. I'd be interested to find out what would happen because they are liable, it's their responsibility to ensure a safe surface for vehicles and their occupants to stand and walk around on.

I'd definitely play the back injury angle. They wouldn't want to play the compensation lottery when the payout gets that big.

Im always very careful at petrol stations, i literally ride out of them with both feet sticking out ready to catch the bike if it slides. You could go swimming in the amount of spilled fuel at some stations.

i've not had any trouble in the last 3 or so years, but my last bike was dropped at a garage due to the guy slipping on diesel, snapped the foot-board clean off (cheap chinese metal) so it does happen
