I'm moving house in a few days so I rang up Swinton yesterday, and they said (after checking new postcode) that the new address is coming up as invalid, due to the underwriter not insuring vehicles in that area due to theft rates (bollocks, I even checked on the police site that lists crime per area..it's more than where I am but not excessively high IMO)
They said they'd contact the underwriter and call me back later.
They never did, but I assume Monday is still 'later' hopefully they don't cancel the policy and try and make me start a new one, as I have some cash for admin fees for address change but not for a whole new policy (I prefer to pay up front not monthly)

TL;DR?
Nuts.

You would be entitled to a full refund of pro rata rates, I would insist on no admin charge (their decision not to cover). How do quotes from other companies compare to you current address for the new one?

Cheaper quotes overall on the meercats Smile If they cancel the policy then I won't be paying any admin fee!

If it's invalid as their underwriting don't insure it then either: You will get a 7 day cancellation letter or be charged an arm, leg and kidney for the increased premium. If they cancel it without offering you the increased premium demand any admin or cancel fee's to be waived.
Best case scenario is a 7 day cancellation tbh, if it's due to their underwriting not liking it you will be shafted with increased premium at a pro rata rate.

Remember: "Have you ever had insurance cancelled, refused, or special conditions imposed?"

I'd be wary about letting them chuck you before you chuck them.

Try getting hold of equity redstar directly (the underwriters for my policy that I purchased with swinton through go compare, I'd assume it's the same) and see what they say, could be swinton setting you up, making you think you wont be covered so when they say "we will cover you, but it's going to cost you x amount" You'll think "phew, that was close..... OK I'll take it" without putting much thought into it.

and as someone else said, if it is going to get to the stage where they wont cover you, cancel your policy on your terms first. May even get some refunded for the deposit for your next cover Smile
