Hi guys,

When I maneuver the bike backwards, every so often I get a squeak from the back wheel. Doesn't happen when moving forwards.

Any suggestions as to what it could be? It's a varadero 125.

Cheers!

The pushing motion allows your cheeks to part and you let out a squeaker?

Squeaky back brake is a common problem on the Varadero, whether it's just poor positioning of the rear brake makes it particularly prone to picking up gunk or what, I'm not sure.

I had my rear brake serviced twice by a garage, and within 2-3 trips it was squeaking again both times. Third time I decided to have a crack myself in case they were doing it wrong or not doing it and charging me. Did the whole thing, stripped down, cleaned pads, discs, etc. sure enough it was squeaking again in about 2 road trips.

I didn't try coppaslipping the back of the pads, which is sometimes recommended for this problem, my approach (as advised by other Varadero owners) was to forget it as it didn't affect function.

That'll be why your rear brake is squeaking then, you're supposed to do that. Not really what the OP is talking about though, it seems they're talking about when they're wheeling it backwards, rather than using the rear brake.

"Supposed to" is a strong assertion. It's often recommended, as I've discovered since. When I was told how to do it nobody mentioned it to me. It may well help, hence my mentioning it Wink.

I wonder if it is in fact happening when OP is riding along, but he hasn't noticed it as he tends to be going faster? I do know that my brake was squeaky even when not being applied (in fact applying it stopped the squeaking), but only when going slowly, as I sped up it disappeared (only present below about 15 mph).

The forum I asked about this on seems to have gone the way of the dodo since I upgraded bikes, otherwise I'd link so OP could have a look at the answers I received.

This^

I had a Varadero and it had exactly the same problem. Silent when going forward, but squeaking when pushed backwards (on or off the bike). The squeak was definately the rear brake, but just left it as was as it didnt appear to affect the braking at all.

Dont worry about it Thumbs Up

PS. Quick wipe over with brake cleaner sometimes helped but always came back.

Lovely - thank you very very much for the help guys! Smile

Seems it's nothing to be worried about - that's a relief!

Can't say I've noticed it when riding, but I've only ridden it twice. Currently waiting on a new battery as I left it without using it and the Datatool seems to be a battery hog!
