do Mod 1 without training? and Mod 2 without training?

Im of a mind to just book my Mod1 and give it a bash without any training. For the cost its cheaper than having lessons and theres always a chance i will pass.

Also thinking maybe I should then do the same with the Mod2. If i fail the examiner gives a run donw of points you fail on so thats a lesson in itself so on balance I could spend a fortune on lessons then have to do a test or spend a simerler amount on tests but with the chance I will pull off a pass.

Assuming you're doing it on your own 125 and don't mind being restricted for 2 years, then yes it's a good idea to do it that way. The tests aren't that hard anyway, and if you've been riding on the roads it will just be things that you haven't learnt how to do 'properly' like positioning and timing of stuff.

If you want to use a 500 for the test, it's much harder, as you need someone to ride it there for you etc., plus you're unlikely to be used to riding the bike unless you have lessons.

Im not bothering with the 500 route as the Das course is an expense that eats into my "next bike" fund anyway. Even then the restriction is only to 30HP and then 47HP next year so still be able to get a slightly more powerfull bike for a weekend blast machine while keeping my 125 for my work uses.

Try and remember all of what you were told on your CBT. Use the resources on this site too. It all helps.

I did my CBT twice (I let it lapse), and didn't do any training at all.

Failed my Mod 1 twice (first time was the U-turn, second time was the U-turn and stopping between the cones, and the examiner stopped the test cos I was battering hell out of my tank in frustration) but I then practiced and practiced my U-turns on a very narrow road until I could do them every single time.

Slow speed riding and figure 8s were a doddle. Remember, all they want you to do is not put your foot down. On both my CBTs they said that the examiner doesn't mind how wide you go, so I took full advantage of that

I then passed the Mod 2 first time with only 2 minors.

Observation is the key. Remember what you were told on the CBT and constantly do your obs.

Mod 1, it's not even worth your time doing the sums, just book it and nail it.

Mod 2, well, you might benefit from paying some geezer to shout in your ear, but it'll still come down to how well you ride on the day. You're not going to pass during a lesson.

If you pass a new A2 after January "on a machine of at least 395cc and between 33 & 46bhp", then you can ride up to 46bhp.

You'll be sitting a current A2 test on a 125 which will give you a Full A licence with a 33bhp restriction for 2 years. Note the above 46bhp doesn't disappear after a preset period.
