Looking for a new helmet, but as a full time spectacle wearer it can be quite an issue. My current specs are very lightweight & not the strongest/most ridgid about, but as they spend 17+ hours a day on my face they are very good.
The problem arises when trundling around trying various style helmets out, flip fronts do make the job of putting specs on after helmet somewhat easier.
Does any one have a recommendation please on what to buy - budget is not a problem, I won't risk not getting the best equipment for the job for the sake of saving a few quid.

I tried a myriad of helmets before getting a Shoei Qwest lid that would accommodate my pig head and specs comfortably.

Shoei may not fit your head though fella so I'm afraid your gonna have to do as i did and try as many as you can. Wink

Hated wearing glasses under a helmet, contacts are the only way to go IMO.

I wear spectacles permanently.

For helmet wear and sports etc I've found nothing other than contact lenses will do.
I'm not that comfortable with having large metal and glass objects near my eyes in the event of a crash.

If they fit you then it's likely to be a far better solution than anything else.
Eye test costs a maximum of £20 and then you can get lenses online for less than £10 a month. If you buy dailies then you only need to use them when you actually get on the bike so they will be cheaper.

Define "best"?

If it's impact protection, then look to Caberg. The Konda is SHARP 5 star rated with a 97% faceguard retention rate (Reg 22 doesn't cover that, hataz Razz). The new Duke isn't on SHARP yet, but there's no reason to believe it'll be any worse.

However, the Konda is a big old lump of a thing. So's my Nitro F341-VN, and it feels functionally very similar to the Konda that I tried. 3 star, but decent chin bar retention and £50.

T.C has claimed that flip fronts transfer impact energy to the base of the skull, and all those hinges must add weight and reduce strength, so you pays your money and takes your chances.

I'm a full time glasses wearer and have a Caberg V2 - the built in sun visor means no more having to carry separate sunglasses. I wore contact lenses for years, but on a bike found them drying out and leaving my eyes even more irritated than usual. I'd consider a flip front if I could put it on and take it off without having to remove my glasses - might as well have a full face if you can't do that. Then again I'm considering an open face anyhoo, as long as it has a built in sun visor too Smile

I wear glasses for driving and riding and have had two helmets, both of which accommodated the glasses ok. The first was an AGV of some kind but the current is a Shoei XR1000.

What I do find though is that the glasses I have are very good for helmet use as the arms are straight, with no bend at the end to 'hook' behind the ears (they are Oakley frames). You can then just push them into place once the helmet is installed.

I have a Shark Vision R BeCool (Orange Embarassed ) - it has specific pads down the side that can be removed for people who wear glasses. I don't need specs, but the option is there. Wasn't cheap though - but I got mine as a gift from my very supportive wife.

I have an Arai Viper GT helmet and my specs fit in fine, I have no trouble putting them on or taking them off through the front opening.

Just a personal thing but I'd never trust a flip-up lid and absolutely never wear an open face lid.

Glasses and helmets are a right royal PITA. Getting contacts has made my helmet much more comfortable Smile

I have an HJC FS-11 which has handy grooves in the padding for me specs. I have to take them off get the helmet on and off though. I also have a Duchinni D619 modular flip-front with built-in bluetooth which I can get on and off without taking my glasses off. Best of both worlds seeing as me and contacts don't get along.

I have 2 lids (Caberg Konda and Nitro N250 VX) and 2 different pairs of glasses. I can't interchange my glasses, my daily glasses (wear most of the time) I can't wear with the Caberg, but can with the Nitro and visa versa... They just don't fit (not comfortable) they are quite difference though, normal ones are more designer and have thicker arms, second pair (free pair Mr. Green are more errr normal lol) Next time I'm lid shopping I need to take both pairs Rolling Eyes

Yes, I've tried on contacts, couldn't get them in my eyes, and when I did I looked like I was crying, and they just slid out. After an hour of fiddling, the optician said I could wear them, but when it came to me fitting them, the watering eyes happened again, and I couldn't get them in. Left with my tail between my legs, and just brought my glasses along when I bought my helmet.

Go to a motorcycle shop, they'll help you. I recommend a flip helmet, take your glasses off and then put the helmet on with the helmet flipped up and slide your glasses in, I suggest looking in your bike mirror to get your glasses in the right spot and make sure you can see when you do a shoulder check! I've done a lot of blurry ones when rushing. Rolling Eyes

Also, flip helmets also help at the petrol station, as some will accept flipping the helmet up to taking it off and faffing about.

I had my first pair of contacts at 15 and worn them ever since (not the same pair)

The technology now means they are so comfortable and just throw them away at the end of the day.

It bugs me putting on sunglasses under a lid so kudos to you guys that wear a helmet and specs.

I've never researched it but you would of thought manufacturers would make a specs version of the most popular models.

First off, I bought some of those specs with a super-bendy frame as I could feel the tensions/pressure in my normal specs.

I found the qwest's airflow to be especially bad for specs - it goes up across the inside of the visor well, but didn't demist my specc.

Then I got soft contact lenses recently (didn't get on with hard ones 10 or so years ago) and they are f'ing brilliant Smile

I have an AGV K3 helmet and my specs fit very comfortably under that.

+1 for the konda or duke, would recommend fitting a pinlock to the konda through as it mists both glasses and visor like a bitch without it. Mind you the glasses still mist but not half as badly.

If its a full face I can also recommend the Ducchini D701. I have one as my pillion helmet and can honestly say it takes my glasses with no fuss at all for a full facer.

I wear glasses all the time too, got a Shoei XR1100 with a black visor for when it's sunny.

No problem at all Thumbs Up

Can't you put the flip front ones on without removing your glasses first?

I've had both the Nitro F347-VN and the Caberg Konda, the Nitro is much more ergonomic what with its flip button being the right way round and it not steaming up as easily.

Don't forget the Caberg Sintesi, which is a slightly more "up market" version of the Duke. I've got one and I love it. I find the mechanism for lowering the visor much easier to use than the Duke. It comes with a pinlock (I'm not sure if the Duke does).

if "The problem arises when trundling around trying various style helmets out" then it's not a problem once you've found a helmet that fits....I wear specs, thought about a flip front but then thought "well, I only put it on once, to take off later - not that much of a faff really"
