Well with all the talk of winter and people on about putting there bikes away for winter and the like.

I am wondering what the general concensus of the people on here is?

I myself am I an all year rider but I don't ride when theres snow or ice etc.

i ride when ever i can, even in the rain, however has crashed twice in the rain on my old scooter which was 50cc, going around a bend and the back wheel just lost control and was holding on for dare life, the bike threw me off and was skkidng along floor, all my hands got sliced and diced, but now i have my rs125 i feel there is more control cause of riding postion, however i still take it slow in the rain, any tips on how i can keep a good speed like i would when the tarmac is dry? seens i have lost alot of confidence cheers, plus i voted all year round rider

That should end soon, got my eye on a CG for the winter journeys to college.

I selected all weather rider, 'cause I think I will gain a lot more experience riding in adverse weather conditions.

Only tonight I was talking about this with my other half as we have one car and one bike. We share days when we have one or the other, but we were talking about what happens when the ice / snow hits home (which according to the news won't be long up here in Scotland).

I have been riding for the last couple of weeks in really crap weather - high winds and rain, but I don't think I will ride when the icy weather comes in.

Is there anyone that has rode / will ride in the ice? How do you do it?

I ride all year, but I don't go out in the rain/ice/snow if I can help it. Riding is for pleasure (I have a warm car for actual transport) so the only time I'll be out in the rain/ice/snow is if it started while I was out or I've planned to do something specific on the bike (i.e. a rally or something).

I was out Boxing Day last year testing the fit of a new back protector (Christmas present) and it was bloody cold...

I've not had too much chance to ride in the cold and wet so far, that was until today when it sheeted down... One thing in particular I remember was coming up to a junction to turn left, and realising the left hand side of the junction was flooded, and I needed to stop in it.

The water came up my boots about 3-4 inches; meaning I learnt what waterproof linings in boots are for and why they might be a clever idea afterall...

That, combined with riding through long puddles thinking, 'Oh, it's not that deep!' and speeding up, made my wettest ride ever somewhat wetter. And why do all trousers leak in the seat?

At the moment I'd say I am a fair weather rider.

I reckon my bike will stay covered up for most of the winter. I don't feel experienced enough in dry conditions, let alone to even contemplate the idea of ice or snow!

I don't mind rain, except when it's so wet that my hands are soaked and I start loosing concentration.

As a "hobby-biker" I would choose my car over my bike in ice or snow. It's just a practicality issue.

Don't drive a car so technically all year round, but so far I've missed the last winter (my first.. ) because bike was off the road so blagged lifts in my mums nice warm car!

This year will be my first proper winter which will be spent sliding around on the supermoto

Problem with ice is , I live on a VERY VERY steep hill with a sharp 90 degree bend at the bottom of the first hill, then the 2nd steep hill at the bottom is a main road so not too sure how the fook I'm going to stop!

Will ride through anything. learned to ride all through winter, rain, hail, snow, ice the lot. not really had any waether related spills either.
Would suggest a winter bike for anyone with a bit of spare cash, can work out cheaper than repairs tou you baby.

If i wasn't at uni i would be on the bike all year round in all weather. Spent my first 3 years riding in every weather and as soon as it snowed i was first one out there to play.

To ride in the snow you need a low powered & light bike (derbi senda) with big fat tyres (bridgestone trailwings) fold up gear and rear brake lever and a sense of humour.

I only got a few bruises as when you fall off you just slide along on the ice. If you'e really skilled you can fall onto the bike and surf it

However, i was 16/17 at the time and slightly mad. Would mess around in the snow now on my supercity, but only 1st and 2nd gear sort of stuff.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth.

I intend to leave the bike at home for definate if theres any sign of Ice on the road.

Beyond that I'll ride in any contitions, don't turn down offers of lifts if it dosn't make it difficult for me to get home if its very windy/wet.

Hi

Use the bike most of the time. Won't go out in snow if I have a choice these days, and will alter my route if it is likely to be icy but rain doesn't really bother me.

If you're ever gonna ride in snow and ice get a "grandad". I rode my C70 from Bridlington to Newcastle (and back) in snow, foot down all the way. I rode the winding country road way, via sledmere, malton and thirsk. Thats when Winter actually happened, I don't think we get that season anymore.

use to ride every day all year round, but walk to work these days

don't take the duke out if raining but if get caught out I wash the bike off before its put to bed with its blankets

I ride in all weathers as it easier than taking the car to work.

Ice and snow do not seem to have a major problem with them as I live in London and snow doesn't last that long and most roads are gritted. So even ice is not a problem. The last snow fall I went out on the bike and the car and had a little fun in a snow cover car park.

Don't you love mid engined sports cars and road bikes.
