Hello,

Today near Rye (SE) I was in a 30 limit and i saw a van with a door open, a camera and the hazard paint on the closed door. Anyway, I got closer and looked down and saw the needle on my speedo hover slightly over 30 on my fzs600, literally one notch over. No problem of course but then it got me thinking.....because the is a manned camera, at what speed would they ticket you?? I mean, if i was literally doing 31mph, could i get fined? or are they really looking for people treating the back roads as a circuit given how popular the roads surrounding Rye can be?

Also, does the camera equipment have some kind of "+2mph" difference to balance the fact some cameras cannot be 100% accurate??

This is me thinking out loud as i was doing on my bike and i need some answer Smile

If there is a man in the van he could do you for even thinking about speeding.

Really though:

10% of limit plus 1 mph discretion.

This is to allow for inaccurate speedos.

But most speedos I have 'calibrated' on several GPS show speed to be about 10% faster than actual. Some vehicles show almost exactly actual speed I have never seen a speedo show less than actual.
So they do err on the beneficial side of things.

It is often 10% + 2mph (i.e. >35mph = ticket) but that is only a guidance and you can get done below that. Do consider that your speedo is likely to be slightly optimistic anyway.

If I went past a van at 31mph I wouldn't give it a second thought.

10% +1MPH

From the horse's mouth.

30s + 10% = 33 + 1MPH = 34 OK. 35 = Ticket.

60s + 10% = 66 + 1MPH = 66 OK. 67 = Ticket

70s + 10% = 77 + 1MPH = 78 OK. 78 = Ticket

Most scamera van's have at least one if not more camera's looking the other way to capture bikes rear plates. These also feed into the recording equipment with time/date data so your knackered ...

Hampshire's scamera operators tend to open BOTH rear flaps to cover the 'Police' signage and camera signs on the flaps on the back of the van, too many drivers spotting them perhaps?
