Hanging off in the wet

I tried it tonight. Now I'm not talking full on knee down-esque amounts of hanging off, nor kneww down lean angles, more about half an ass cheek off and quite sedate lean angles.

The result? More confidence. I sometime find that in the wet I run off line, especially on one particular roundabout. With me moving off the seat a touch tonight I found that I could hold as tight a line as I wanted, and not by going any slower than I normally would in the conditions.

Anyone tried it/do it? If you do have confidence issues in the wet i suggest you give it a go.

My old bt20's and this crappy avon i have on atm seem to suck when cold and if you pansy arse about they dont get warm.

If i boot it about and spin up /slid into corners they tend to become quite good .

I've got a phobia of the wet too. I was trying to lean a little more than normal last weekend like you were saying McJam and found that there wasn't really anything to worry about.

Does anyone knee down in the wet?

Got my knee down in the wet many times. I have confidence in my tyres, which is one of the most important things for riding in the wet.

I cant ride in the wet, my confidence and bottle goes completly, I'm the sort of rider you'll see huddled under a bridge or bus stop if I get caught out Embarassed

Well it was (is) absolutely pouring down and I didn't realise how bad my brakes are, but besides the point I don't have the confidence yet to lean in the rain plus I'm still getting use to riding in leathers.

You can have amazing grip in the wet then it's just that - wet. It's the floating lubricants you have to be careful of. Rolling Eyes

I'm never that convinced about roundabouts in the rain, purely because of the higher chance of them having slippy shit dribbled all over them so tend to take them nice and easy. That said, I haven't had a roundabout slide since I got decent tyres, but a slither on the old Pirellis across Hogarth roundabout made me realise that this was not a trick I wanted to repeat.

I actually prefer it pouring down to drizzling - pouring tends to shift enough water to wash the slimey crap away, drizzle just makes it greasy.

Yup, the one in Chiswick. Dunno if it's the surface or the angle or what, but it seems to retain crud really well.

Well I do still hang off a tad when riding in the wet, and thats only cos I am very confident in the tyres I use and thesure footed handling of my bike, I am alot smooter in the wet than I am in the dry which seems to help make a difference.

So far I haven't had that many slides on the GPZ running with BT45's. Smile

I tend to hang off a little in the wet,not much,just enough to shift my weight to let the bike stay a bit more upright.
I grew up riding bikes with skinny tyres and no grip in the wet so it takes a while to build up confidence i guess a couple of wet track day sessions might help that.

IMHO it's more about getting the feel for when your tyres are about to lose grip rather than having blind confidence in them.

I have Metzeler ME22s and they are not very confidence inspiring in the wet at all. Taking roundabouts I could take at 50 odd, taking them any more than 30 sees the back end sliding out. They didn't seem so bad the last time I was out in the wet but I have had the back end of her slide in out a few corners which has shattered my confidence somewhat.

I've got a metzeler on the front of my mz. It's lovely in the dry, I havn't really pushed it in the wet, but it seems fine to me.

G gave this exact advice a while back on another thread - I've been doing it ever since and it has made such a difference to my confidence in the wet.

By shifting my upper body I can keep the bike more upright and can go that wee bit faster since I know the bike can still lean over without leaning too much, if you get my drift.
