I've lost the paper part of my driving licence, and need it for Wednesday at 9am.

I phoned up the DVLA and they said it would be sent out the day after they receive my cut up photocard. I was going to send it Special Delivery in a bit, so will get there for 1pm tomorrow.

Question is, will I get it in time? On the phone they said the day after they get it, online, after you press 'pay now' it says 14 days.

Is it worth keeping hold of my photo card and hoping that it is enough for now (home delivery driver, work there currently), or send it off and hope that its back in time? Manager I need to speak to about it has gone home, so can't phone her and ask. Don't really want to risk waiting until tomorrow, in case its not OK and its a day wasted.

I've spent the last 7 hours cleaning my room looking for the bloody thing, so a bit annoyed now!

I thought I knew where it was, which makes it more annoying!

Uh... why would you tell them that you've only lost the counterpart? If you've "lost" the photocard as well, there's no need for them to delay sending a replacement.

You can do it all online, no need to talk to those mongs.

Never, ever send them anything, there's no upside for you.

I changed my address details online for my licence last week - new one came through within a few days. It is pretty quick, and all of my licence categories are on there too - which was a relief.

On a side note, when you apply online they make you promise to cut up and send your old licence in. They send the new one out straight away but are presumably waiting for my old one.

Is there any legal reason (i.e. in statute) why I would have to send it in, rather than just keep it as a back up against their ineptitude?

I dont understand why you need to send the cut up photo ID back to them?
I did mine online 3 months ago as I had lost my paper part - I received both Photo ID and Paper part within a few days at the cost of £20 - to be honest, I have 2 old Provisional cards here, and 2 pink licence cards floating about - I tend to loose them and re-order Laughing
Ive never sent any photocard back to the DVLA.

There is some kind of offence I believe, no idea what it is though.

Guess so they know you only have one. The person on the phone said that they wont send it out, until they have my old one.

If I had known this, I would have said I lost both parts.

I guess its so they know that only one copy is in circulation.

TBH it's in your interest to destroy the old one. Just think if someone got hold of it....
The fun they could have with it.... Twisted Evil

Open bank accounts, get loans, rack up points for speeding etc.....

The DVLA are expert at inventing 'offences' and things that we 'must' do - ask sickpup - but I don't believe that there's any statute behind that particular bit of pedantry. As always, I'm happy to stand corrected.

Just tick the "lost" box, then you can "find" it again if necessary.

As I was reading this I was thinking, how the feck is it possible to lose your paper part Laughing

As my theory is this Saturday at 9AM I decided to go to the envelope in my draw with ALL my licences in that I am ANAL about keeping in the right place.

And my paper licence isn't there.

Haha.

Just turned my entire room inside out in about 20 minutes, I have a volcano on my carpet of clothes and shit.

My mum gets in and goes 'I gave it back to you when we got back from France'

Me 'No you didn't...'

TL;DR She didn't and found it straight away, so relived, my room is still as is though.

Ha

Mums ay. Thumbs Up

Wish my mum knew where mine was! Would have saved me 20 quid! She just said 'is it in your room?' Rolling Eyes
