Surely just a metal plate with some bolts through it would do the trick?

How would you bolt it to a sissy bar rack though? Like this one:

Or something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-MOTORCYCLE-NET-TAILBAG-UNDERSEAT-HOOK-MOUNT-/280230833021?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item413f0f2b7d

To help secure the tail bag to the rack by putting that underneath the rack and strapping together? Just not sure where to get one of these...

Four bolts going through the metal plate, two metal bars attached to two bolts each underneath the sissy rack.

there;s a fair number of top boxes on the market that come with their own base plate these days

this one for instance

Can you be more specific about the luggage that you want to mount? Generic top boxes tend to come with their own base plates, it's only the lah-de-dah name brand ones that expect you to buy a base plate separately.

My own rear rack top box solution consists of some Warp-welded mild steel, one bolted on bracket and a bunch of cable ties, it's not rocket surgery.

You're searching for the wrong stuff. Do a google for "9mm ply".

Through the genius use of a jigsaw and drill you can make just about any shape you want.

You really like to make things harder than they need to be don't you? Wink

i am interested in this also. I have considered the following: remove pillion seat....
install some plywood over seat under sissy bar...
drill a few holes...

attach ply wood to two hook mount points either side of pillion seat. and to sissy bar using cable ties... (lots of good quality ones...)

attach generic base plate to plywood. attach topbox to base plate... (top box will be where pillion seat is)

does this sound like a good plan to you folks?

Wayne. I think it would be ok for a 'make do' temporary fix but I wouldn't trust it long term. Do you know anyone that can weld? It should be easy to make something that will attach to the frame which should be stronger. If you think that welding will be a problem then it is easy to make something really 'unique' out of copper pipe and solder.

What bike is it?
What luggage do you want to mount (make/size)

I have a leather sissy bar bag which i made a thread about a while ago. The problem is the sissy back rest is a bit short, so it doesnt strap to it very well. I thought if i made/bought a new base plate i could then run straps through it through slits in the plate to stop it moving at all.
I could also just generally use a larger surface area on the rack as its not very big.

It will attach i just wanted more mounting space and i feel a little uneasy relying on a thick strap to hold it to the bike.

i never even thought of that.... this is pretty much what i would need...

(remove the bunjie mount points and attach front bars and then back ones on sissy bar (could even make it sit back)

because its copper? - its a good plan, spray paint it black, who would know?

however....
plan is to get my A2 sorted ASAP. so hopefully wont need this (unless fail test but wont talk about that one yet Razz)

but for a top box to fit one full face helmet, isnt gonna need to be a large frame...

Might speak to a welder (know a few down birms area) and if they cant do a cheap job... its either pipework, or "live with it" (been managing with bunjies so not too fussed)
