 |
|
OK, didn't want to have to post this ever but a named rider on one of my bikes (some moped) has had a crash involving another car.
Has a witness to say it was not the riders fault, but a car that had been speeding and went wide round a corner in a country lane.
Unfortunately the rider has taken some damage, as has the vehicle. Exhaust snapped, plastics down one side are gone, scuffs everywhere, indicators hanging off...the usual.
Now, policy and vehicle are in my name, he is a named rider with conviction declared, wearing L plates, fully legit in terms of insurance so that I'm OK with. Its the fact this is his transport to get around (albeit my name, I own it) to see his son and to get to his job which is ~8 miles.
2 questions, this shouldn't affect my own personal insurance should it?
Also, hire bikes...he has a CBT, I have full licence. Policy was taken out with me as a Full with an added provisional rider. Will this be taken into account if they offer me a hire bike. Obviously I have no need, but he does. He has ridden geared bikes for over a year but settled on an auto ped for day to day running.
Anyone got any advice on this, also most insurers have a 24/7 claims line or at least one open during daytime hours. Principal Insurance don't seem to, so the notice on my policy saying please contact us within 24 hours of your accident with a crime reference number is pretty useless. |

Also, did you do this to save him money, ie, if it is his regular transport and he is only a named ride, not the policy holder, are you going to get shafted? Probably. |
No, we are both frequent users of it, around town and to parents for me and running around for his kid for him.
Save money, again no. I got it with the intention of using it a fair bit, its registered to parents house where it usually sits in the garage. He used it to visit a friend who live ~10 miles away from me, but its country lanes all the way.
I'm not fussed with another claim but as he is claiming not me it shouldn't touch mine right? Similar to ride other bikes policies? Not too fussed either way as it wasn't his fault and I've got 3 non fault claims on my history which don't touch my premiums 1 small one for a £200 ped won't be overly bad. |

Unless things have changed in the 15 or so years since I have availed myself of the services of the local Accident and Emergency facilities, the NHS will likely come after your insurer for certain costs for a traffic related incident.
Your insurer will get this back from the at fault driver's underwriter, but you should still let them know about the accident if the at fault driver is going is going to cover your costs. ____________________ '82 C50, '81 CB100, '84 GS125, '95 NTV650, '00 Bandit 600, '06 SV650, '56 Z1000, '89 NTV600
