I am looking for one now so would be interested too, the last cheap one cost me £9.99 off Ebay, but lasted about 6 weeks before it fell apart, I dont mind paying more but as above , dont wanna pay the earth.

If your bike is under one long term, like over winter. Condensation can build up and sit on your bike for days/weeks. You can get ones that help reduce this.

My bike's stored outside (no garage Sad ) and we live on a mountain so the wind destroys everything. I've had a number of cheap covers as even the expensive one got shredded by the constant screaming gale that howls round the house.

Last year i bought an Argos one and (with some bungeeing here and there to minimise the flapping and tearing) it lasted the whole of last winter and looks fit to last this winter too. Thumbs Up

Any idea how they stop it being a problem? Gortex? Semi permeable layer? Silica Gel inserts?

I rent a lock-up but it's 10 minutes walk away and I'm way too lazy for that. What I might do this winter is to use the pushbike to get to and from the lock up. Trouble is, that means leaving bike and clobber in the lock up. I feel much safer having the bike within spitting distance.


Last year i stuffed rags in the pipes and WD40 all over the bike. Used an old blanket and then the cover. Seemed to be fine after a wash down. It was under for 14-16 weeks. One or two nights is OK but some of the problem is when you stick a cover on a hot/warm bike on a wet day. Best let it cool first.

Oh, before the smart arses say anything you do get covers that can go on hot bikes.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

Get a proper canvas tarpaulin one. Breathable, waterproof, heavy (and therefore wont blow away), tear and heat resistant. If you get one with eyelets, you can lock it onto the bike too.

You're actually best and cheapest getting one custom made at the places they do them for HGVs or at a scaffolding place.

Best one I had was a one made with rigid metal pipes in it that folded on and off the bike like an accordion, ride in then just pull it over with one hand brilliant but pricey .

A bit like this but bigger and square.
