CBR600 as the obvious choice, its a tight budget so I wouldn't know what to advise myself?!

For £300 you're almost certainly looking at a project, or very high mileage, 60k plus.

For £800 you should be able to pick up quite a bit, it depends how much you're willing to travel. But, you're still probably looking at something from the 90s. Check out the completed listings on fleabay, that should give you some ideas. SV650, ZX6, VFR

You can pick up old yammy 535s in working order for £400, so i'd certainly think you could pick one up as a project for under £300, just an idea
