Yamaha MT-03 MPG?

Hi,

Looking into new bikes to replace the old bandit. I was looking at BMW f650's as ideally i want something cheaper to run than the bandit (fuel wise) and with low down power. I use my bike for 95% commuting so having power at the top of the rev range is useless, not to mention unhealthy for my license. I noticed these funky little yamaha's seem to lose their value really fast (which is good for me) and was wondering what sort of MPG they get? Ive googled to my hearts content and cant find out. The only thing ive found is on MCN with their mythical tank ranges.

BIKE magazine do a little table near the back called the MPG league table or something. As I recall the BMW F800S, the Honda NC700S and the BMW F650 are the top three...

Thanks for that will check it out. I do like the look of the f800s just a bit out of my price range...

Might not be much help to you but I ride a 2011 G650GS and get a constant 75mpg more or less regardless of riding style.

The engine is essentially unchanged from the 2000 F650GS so I can vouch for the economy of one of these.

The only times I've seen below 70mpg were running the bike in (65mpg) and riding 2-up at 80 into the wind with luggage for 2 hours (60-65ish).

Kawasaki Versys is also good.
60mpg near everywhere, fun to ride just looks a bit odd.

Yeah, I held my Versys flat out for about half a tank, and it was still doing 65mpg.

the MT-06 is Yamahas fairly tried and tested 600 single lump, and should return a happy 60mpg with steady riding, 50 if you rag it, but they're a cool bike. Same engine as the SRX-600 if slightly updated. It may have the dual carb that the SRXs had, where there is a smaller diameter carb and a larger one, at low throttle openings the smaller carb is used so you can get ridiculous MPG figures (people riding SRX400s used to report 90 - 100 mpg on long runs) and then if you wind it on the second carb opens up giving you the full bhp when you need it.

I had an MZ Baghira with two carbs as described above.

As soon as it came on song you ended up hitting the limiter. I dislike big singles.

Only bad thing (for buyers) is the Versys holds its price well.

Blood hard to find a cheap one.

Whilst i agree i should be looking at GPZ500's the snob in me wants something nicer. They have to be one of the ugliest bikes made.

For a smidge more, you could have had this (ok it is an ebay auction not a dealer ad) which has lower miles, similar economy and long service intervals, but is a good chunk lighter to justify the low power.

That is awesome, but at 5 foot 5 i doubt i would reach the floor!

Thats why i was looking at mt03's and the older BMW f650's.

I guess its all irrelevant until i go test ride a few machines i might even hate the power delivery of single cylinders after getting used to the IL4....

MPG will be an improvement so at least i know it will be a viable option so i guess its a trip to the dealers.

I rode one of those a while ago (MT-03) and could see myself getting on with it just fine... On the Island.

I wouldn't entertain one on the motorway. The single is hilariously unsuited to it.

Nice, flickable handling and are pretty raucous with the Akrapovic cans on, but there are much, much better bikes. Such as the street Triple.

Maybe i should keep saving or consider finance for the f800s then. Im not financially in a position to have multiple bikes.
