I like Ben. He is a great racer but he's suffering from the "shadow of Lorenzo" syndrome. This is the safe affliction that Lorenzo himself suffered with while Rossi was with Yamaha.

It would be good to see what Ben can do with another team.

Bike is a bike, the rider makes it what it is.

I'll take his spot, can't say I'll leave the pit lane but fuck it. I'll bitch less.

This is true. But bike is second bike to Lorenzo's bike. Lorenzo is/was/could be/will be world champion and therefore will get the better set up. Anyone hitting Yamaha team next year will suffer the same.

Now does Cal Crutchlow get his spot, or has he already signed with the career-destroyers Ducati?

Or will Dovi get it?

There's strong speculation of Rossi returning to Yamaha, he's yet to make a deal with Ducati and Honda said no, even yamaha have admitted the massive benefit of signing Rossi again!

More than likely if Rossi doesn't get it it'll be Dovi, Dovi's made way less mistakes considering every time Cal's been in with a podium chance he's fucked up and stuck it in the gravel to finish 8th or something, a factory team won't want that when his teammate has had 4 podiums in 5 races and is also in with a chance.

I think Rossi and Dovi have quite similar chances, and Cal, not so much. We all know what Rossi can do, and when its wet and he can ride how he wants, not compromising with the bike, he's right back at the sharp end. He's had enough compliments this year from Cal, and even Jorge's never said he's passed it. Back on a Yamaha could bring him back to where he's meant to be.

I beleive tobacco sponsorship is now banned in GP, hence Ducati's main sponsor (Marlboro) went into a sort of barcode style in 2009, and aren't on display anywhere on the bike anymore, I don't even know if they're still with Ducati, I don't think they are.
No other team has a tobacco sponsor either.

Marlboro still sponsor Rossi as an individual (that is to say they pay the team he works for), even though they cannot advertise on the bike..

As can be seen here

I agree with Mikey3. As much as I would love to see Cal on a factory bike he does suffer with a serious case of the Stoners. He can be riding fantastically and be in line for a podium and then goes and falls off the track. Most of the time its silly mistakes. Sometimes its trying too hard to get a better position. Hopefully he wont go to Ducati.

I think, should Rossi return to Yamaha, it will make for a great rivalry between him and Lorenzo. After all Lorenzo was a bit miffed that Rossi left Yamaha and could not find out who was the better rider on the same bike as Rossi had sustained that shoulder damage and struggled with his last Yami season.

Honda are scrapping one of their bikes next season so chances are they will keep the same riders after Stacy Moaner leaves.

I'd prefer to see Rossi make the Ducati come good alongside Cal.

I'd personally like to see Hayden as the No. 2 Yamaha rider.

That'll never happen until Ducati start listening to Rossi. While Duke think they know their bikes better than their riders they will never compete. Stacey Moaner was the only person who could ride with Duke and even then he fell off countless times in his Ducati career.

The Ducati Stoner rode and took to a WC was not the same bike that Rossi has now.

Ducati have now been take over by Audi who aren't known to fail.

But Audi have never raced motorcycles. There in lies the issue. Personally I would trust my rider over my factory any day if I owned a racing company. If the factory said set it up like this: and then the rider asked for a different set up I would do what the rider wanted. After all he is the one actually riding the bike.

Disagree about Cal, Firstly Cal is on his way up Dovi on his way down. Cal has shown he is a great racer twice ending up at the back of the grid with a broken ankle and both times working his way through the pack to a respectable 5/6th. Next season on a factory bike Cal will be challenging for the championship. Give Dovi the Broken Ankle and he would be well behind Cal. He really does need to sort his starts out though.

But they have huge tooling resources and lots of money.

Ducati have listened, they just don't have the resources to turn things around quickly.

E.g Honda brought a new bike to test. Ducati an ECU. Which broke.

This

Dovi is a serious talent but he is just a rung short of truly competing with Pedrossa/Stoner/Lorenzo. I suspect his lack of sponsorship will be a bigger barrier to him getting a factory ride again too.

Next year is a bit of a catch 22 if you ask me, If Rossi stays at Ducati next years racing will wind up being an utter snorefest, if he moves to Yam taking the Morris millions with him it's likely going to end any chances of seeing a competitive Duke on the GP grid any time soon Neutral

Yep, I personally think Dovizioso is a good rider, but he just doesnt have the edge. He doesnt sparkle. He had a factory ride, and like Spies, he did nothing with it.

Crutchlow on the other hand, has had some seriously impressive performances, but he's made a few cock ups and had some crappy luck. I think he has the talent to be there or there abouts with the "aliens" given a factory ride.

Credit where credit's due Cal is right on the verge of success, but I'm talking here from a factories point of view. Ben did so well and got podiums and he's flunked it, do you not think that might be in Yamaha's minds? Cal needs to get some solid results on the board if he's in with a shot of the ride, at least while he's being out performed by his team-mate, even if he is on the way out.
As for Rossi- that doesn't need to be explained. Given his chance to ride his way he's ended up on the podium and makes himself a bitch to get past as we saw at Muggello with Cal.
I'm saying Dovi and Rossi (mainly Rossi) have proven themselves, and Cals proving himself, Yamaha will want someone proven, when Cal does that I believe he'll be in with a chance, until then, the competitions too high.
I reckon 1st choice Rossi, with the marketing benefits and a damn good chance of two bikes back at the sharp end.
2nd Dovi, then Cal.

I don't think Dovi is on his way down.

When he was on the factory Honda his first couple of years he was 5th/6th and only behind the kind of riders you'd expect him to be behind. I think Colin Edwards had a really good season one year but still. He was always clearly the number two rider in the Repsol team.

Then the last year he was only there because of a contract clause so became the number three rider in a team that didn't even want him there, I'm sure he didn't get the level of support that Stoner and Pedrosa got that season yet he still managed to finish third in the championship.

After he was dropped by the manufacture he was with since 2002 he jumped on a satellite yamaha and is putting it on the podium most weeks.
