Saw a chap on a BMW who showed me a lock which made it impossible to pull the clutch lever in. Quite good as a piece of anti-thief kit. But despite a search of the internet have been unable to locate one to buy. Anyone know where I could get one please ?

Thanks
Ron

if i were a bike thief i could quite easily steal and ride a bike without using the clutch.

My clutch cable snapped when i was about 100 miles from home last year and i managed to ride it back without too much bother at all.

pretty useless idea IMO

If it clamps onto the grip tight enough, the throttle/front brake would make more sence.

Although I've ridden without a clutch (more than once) and also ridden without a front brake, so the throttle would be the only thing stopping me assuming it grips tightly enough.

There is one that grips the brake lever. It's called Grip Lock.

Thanks guys.

I have tracked one down and ordered from here

https://www.mynewcheap.co.uk

A couple of pence less than £50 with the shipping.

Yes, agreed that if they are going to nick it they are going to nick it. As has been said many times, all that you are buying is time (the enemy of the thieving shits) and the hope that they fill find some other target. Seems that organised gangs are into bike theft now and they just stick the whole bike on a trolley and into the rear of the unmarked white van it goes, disclocks, clutch locks, chains and all...

Nil carborundum, as they say.

However, the people who accepted my order this morning have just refunded my paypal account. I rang them and they tell me no stock. As the manufacturer is not able to give them any idea of when the item will be manufactured again, we are back to square one with this.

If anyone finds a source of stock, please let me know. Thoughts turn to home-made solutions. If I devise anything, I will publish the details.
Otherwise, it is back to a disc lock or something conventional. In the good old days with distributors, putting the rotor arm in one's pocket was always an easy way to defeat even those who hot-wired the ignition. Maybe there is a fuel-injection equivalent component or another way of doing it.

QD fuel line. You get quick couplers normally used for attaching and detaching boat fuel tanks. If you had two with a section of fuel line between them.

Or you could move the CDI to somewhere accessable. Attach it with a QD clip and connector block or rig up some sort5 of dock. Take it off and put it in your pocket when you leave the bike.

They don't hotwire them in situ though. They push them away or put them in a van and work on it at their leisure. Theives took a bike of mine which had a 12 lead immobaliser and hotwired it to ride about.

The only good security is something that physically prevents the bike being wheeled or carried away.

Believe you me, I have tried everywhere. Even ebay.de and ebay.nl for Germany and Holland, and ebay.com for the US, too.

Nobody has one. One of the dealers I phoned said that the product had gone out of production and there "may be" someone else start to make it. I'm not going to get too exercised about this as many of you have pointed out that the grab and carry merchants arent going to take any notice of any immobilisers of any kind. A big-arse chain around the whole lot might help, but an angle grinder would make short work of that and of course "nobody sees anything" when something like that happens.

If someone wants your bike badly enough. It's gone andf you can't stop them. The same one that I had hotwired had been chained up with a massive chain of a grade you couldn't hacksaw and would be able to grind through only with difficulty. They cut it with a hydraulic shear.

Looks to me like you could just cut the end of the grip with a knife then slide/force the body off the end of the bars.

Or just taking bolt cutters and slicing it in one go.

as i said earlier, this is useless unless you attach it to the throttle side, even then it's only slightly less than useless. if you attach it to the clutch side it would be completely pointless, you dont actually need a clutch to ride a motorbike

Well, I think this thread can be closed now. There is no way to get a lever lock from anywhere. I ordered one from Reg Collins Motorbike Security as they listed it on their webpage (they have removed it now) and he refunded my payment as he has none in stock and the importer doesnt know when more will come on stream. Reg was courteous enough to phone me and explain what the situation was. Unfortunately one has to mention things like good service, as it is far from normal. I've found many suppliers simply dont give a toss these days...

Anyway after a chat with Reg, I have ordered a disc lock and also one of those Datatag motorbike kits with the security chips and invisible UV markings. The main benefit of that is probably the Datatag sticker.
So thanks for the comments, and back to making a living.

Regards

Ron
