hi , i put my bike in for it's 2nd service as it's done nearly 6000 mls , The mechanic changed my front pads without asking ! He said my pads were getting low so he changed them for me at a cost of £126 is it ok to do that ? https://s1156.photobucket.com/albums/p570/stuartt1/ i have put a link to show that i know how to look after a bike , some pics are of my 3yr old busa & some pics are of my 1 yr old victory hammer s that was in much the same state at 6 months old !

Are they made of solid adamantium?! £126 for changing the fucking brake pads!

That's a joke, tell him you didn't want them changed, and to replace them with the old ones at his cost, it's your bike, YOU decide what work gets done above and beyond a basic service (plugs oil and filters, checking and greasing things)

Screw it, I'd ask to see the old ones, see just how low they were (I was told my tyres needed changing as the tread was low, that was 2000 miles ago and they still aren't down to TWI's)

Then put in a complaint to the manager/head office, saying how disappointed you are that work was undertaken without your permission etc etc.

Is he the manager or just a spanner jockey? If he isn't the manager ring up first thing in the morning, complain, saying how this is not the sort of service you expect, if he is go over his head if possible.

Definitely, it's your bike, why shouldn't someone take pics of it? I'd have kicked off long ago if the service is as shitty as it sounds. Try to resolve it first, if they won't play ball, name and shame the dealer.

they don't want people to see it as it looks like a cheap 30 yr old bike not a 1 yr old 14k bike , it's far far worse now than the pics that were posted on here , even the swinging arm is corroding behind the paint . i'd never buy another victory again thats for sure .

ahhhhhh, this is our friend with the bike that looks like it's been 'dry stored' in the sea.

Marvellous. this chap and his bike are a riding example of why you should never buy anything even remotely foreign. Laughing

Then after minimal road use.

Awesome looking bike, until you get within 5 yards and the "What.. the..." kicks in. Shocked

Hey, I'm a Victory mechanic, and in my opinion that isn't 'minimal road use'. Don't get me wrong though, I've seen a Victory with corrosion but never that bad. One of my customers has done ~17,000 miles in 18 months, he's been to Turkey and Spain on a Hammer 8 Ball. He's had issues with corrosion, which is understandable considering the way he treats his bike, which Victory have sorted for him with only mild questioning. This corrosion problem isn't a common thing.

With regards to the OP, £126 is a ridiculous price to pay for just brake pads. Personally, I would charge about £58. That would involve a brief clean up of the pistons before I pushed them back in. I would have at least let you know that they needed doing.

EDIT from later post:

...if they fitted the genuine pads then the price would be about right for that. The pads come in a kit that includes springs and pad pins etc. They are about £50 a side plus fitting.

Thats happened in only 6000 miles?! Shocked My 40,000 mile 13yr old fazers finish has faired better than that!

You should be getting on to Victory and getting them to sort it out. Paint should not just peel off like that.

Good experiences don't negate bad ones, and vice versa.

It's a £14,000 bike: that there's one of them out there in that state after 6000 miles and (IIRC) a year, and that the dealer and Victory UK haven't sorted it, speaks for itself.

Stuart came across as genuine and sensible regarding his bike, I've got no reason to doubt his version of events.
