Hi all
I live in the western highlands near tongue ,and was wondering how many forum members make it this far up?.
I see bikers of all sorts up this way as i'm on the tourist route, and see many nice bikes too, either flying past or stopping at the local viewpoint/cafe/b&b.
I might have even waved at afew members as i've past you:)
Its a nice area round here for the roads and views, and popular for those doing long tours,so if anyone wants a nice tour destination then check out the area and i might see you around:)
I could recommend some nice facilitys/views etc too.
fuels not cheap though!, so if your up this way then fill up outside the area ,( inverness/edinburgh/wick etc.)
Once you get into the small crofting villages the price gets steaper!
Take care and ride safe

Hi
yep its stunning riding around the roads and taking in the expanse of landscape and mountains.
and if anyones up this way ,try going towards durness as the roads are great...
some you can see miles infront of you ,and you can open the taps on corners:)and get amazing long stretches of pure fun!!
steve
Its a nice place to live too! and when i want to take a spin, its just a matter of which direction ____________________ love my susuki gz 125 maraurder 1998 |

Aye I've got the same dilema in the west, went for a wee run today, better half on pillion, 150ish miles, and a few hrs later got back home, weather very warm and sunny, Kinlochewe to Glen Affric, wish I'd taken the camera for pics, the road and views around Cannich and Glen Affric are stunning ____________________ First bike R reg Suzuki 125 GT twin in 1978:

Our club tries to get up to Durness at least once a year.
You'll recognise us. We're the ones piloting a motley assortment of older sports bikes with sports racks and tents stupidly fast up the road from Ullapool on a Saturday evening.
Then very slowly back as far as Scourie on the Sunday because we're hungover and are running on fumes, having hit reserve on the single tracker going into Durness (70 miles from the last stop). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Yeah midges are a bloody pain in the arse!!!
I wouldnt move back across the border if my life depended on it!
Its just the death defying sheep that you gotta watch!mad bloody animals who stand at the roadside and suddenly decide to play chicken at the last minute!
Trust me you can see it in thier eyes when they are about to leap out!
and that menacing grin! ____________________ love my susuki gz 125 maraurder 1998 |

for your Info scorps : Applecross wooden camp huts ( wigwam ) about £38 includes 2 persons, pitch a tent £6 p/head, p/night: Sheildaig free campsite, basic: Kinlochewe hotel bunkhouse £14.50 p/h, p/n: Ledgowan lodge bunc house Achnasheen £14.50 p/h, p/n: Gerrys Hostel, Achnashellach, main dorm £16 p/head, p/night: above prices could vary ( just looked up on the net ), there is also pay and some free camping in Lochcarron, Torridon and KInlochewe as well, though sounds as if you wish a few home comforts

And..... the 'wigwams' (wooden hut thingies) probably need to be booked well in advance. One cannot normally rack up there and expect comfort.
The Western Highlands of Scotland can guarantee Charm but your comforts sometimes come in a bottle/can around there. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
