Has anyone found success working as a temp, in terms of actually finding any work. I've got a full time job lined up but it doesn't start until October which is leaving me at a loose end. I've just finished doing some Olympic work but my contract ends tomorrow.
Where is the best place to look for temp work, I live in London so I'm assuming there is plenty about. I hate not working, it drives me crazy not doing anything. I've got pretty varied experience in entry level jobs so experience shouldn't be a problem.
Any ideas?

Most of the civil service gets their temps from Brook Street and Adecco, so get signed up with them.

Having little by way of experience could work in your favour. Last time I had to get a temp in for 8 weeks of menial work it was fairly hard to find someone sufficiently inexperienced.

In my experience around 20% of the permanent staff began as temps.

Adecco is a good agency!

Bonus is you won't get bored doing temp work!, and you can pick what job you like when you get offered a permanant position, or turn it down and wait untill you find one you do like!

work hard in every job your sent ,then you will have the pick of whatever you like when they start offering you a more fixed job!

plus i found adecco was a well run/polite/helpfull agency!

good luck

When I was with Adecco and other temp agencies (funny thing - I was doing the same job for the same people but the agency changed a few times!) I got holiday pay - but you need to claim it, basically ask them how many hours/days you have accrued after you've been working for a while and then enjoy the extra moneys. Thumbs Up

I started with a recruitment agency some years ago too. And after completing a fairly basic assessment / interview, I've never been out of work for more than a day or two since.
The full-time job I'm doing right now originally started as a short term temp contract.... and I eventually got offered a full company contract after showing my ability and reliability.

www.rec.uk.com - find some you like the look of on their consultancy finder.

Some may get you to do a typing and/or Excel test too. Most people I know are still using 2003 or 2007; agencies will test you with 2010 and a lot of the shortcuts are different, just FYI Wink

Adecco, Brook Street and Randstad are all decent and would be a good place to start.
