 |
|
Just sold my NRG yesterday, but in an attempt to skimp out on paying my insurance cancellation fee and getting a years no claims bonus, ive sold the bike and left the insurance running (diddnt tell the buyer this) my insurance runs out on the 11th but couldnt swap it over to the cbr as they wanted near 2 grand . Is there any problems with this, what if he crashes?! Will it be a claim on me? Hopefully he has insurance too
Side note, can i ring up my insurer for my cbr and tell them that in 5 days ill have 1 years NCB and will they amend my premium... worth a shot aye.

Yes you can get a policy now, quoting the new no claims bonus. If they query the 'overlap' of a few days then tell them you picked up the new bike before you sold the old one. |
Actually, I misunderstood your second question. You have another bike that has 0 ncd and you want to add a mid-term amendment of 1 years ncd?
Not sure about that, worth an ask though. Mention you had 2 bikes but now own 1. Not sure how it would work at the end of the policy year though. Can't see that you would now have 2 years? |
Sorry, I've been riding and insured since aug 11th last year on a moped, now have got a cbr (17) but my moped policy doesnt run out till the 11th and then that would of been a whole year of riding with no claims, so on the 11th i was going to ring up my cbr's insurance and say i no have a policy that has expired and would like to transfer the 1 year to my cbr policy, sounds weird. ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

2) No need to cancel your insurance with only a few days to go, [b]you are insured on that bike the insurance is only in affect if you are riding it.
3)Might be worth looking at cancelling the insurance on the cbr and getting a new quote on the 11th as the cancellation fee will only be a few quid and your new quote with 1 years NCB might save you much more. |
this is incorrect, under the road traffic act the bike is covered for 3rd party damages whatever happens whilst its insured, whoever is driving, even if its stolen and gets crashed in to a wild pack of nuns. its just that the insurance company will payout then pursue the OP for not cancelling the policy, or pursue the new owner to compensate them, or in the case of a stolen bike, they will pursue the thief.
An insurance company cant shirk their responsibilities for 3rd party claims just because the OP wasn't riding the bike, as far as the law is concerned, the bike is covered for any 3rd party claims. if the person riding the bike at the time of the crash is or isn't insured is a completely separate matter.
If the OP's bike is in a crash, the person they crash in to will be more than entitled to put in a claim on the OPs insurance, and considering its the one that is likely to come up on on a police computer or an insurance check then its likely to be the one used, not whoever has just insured the bike, if its even insured at the moment.
because it takes a little time for the relevant databases to be updated. ____________________ ......................................................................... |

I see what you mean, as I paid in full last year, do you think I could just ring them up and say end it now? Only 4/5 days early, or will they charge? ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

I don't think they charge a cancellation fee if the policy has ran over a certain time. In fact, I thought they just charged you if you were paying monthly, not if you'd already paid in full ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Sorta agree , you are correct, but I was giving him a real world answer, the odds of the bike being stolen in the next few days is low, if it was, the new owner would ring his insurers up and claim, add in the odds of the new owner not insuring it then having a crash or the bike stolen then crashed and you are looking at a really small chance of this happening in the next 3 days.
I would recommend he cancel normally but getting 1 years NCB could make quite a saving for him .
We have given him the options its up to him now
Just had a quick google 1 years NCB can be up to 30%, which is a saving of £600 quid on his insurance of £2000.
IMO Its a no brainer if his insurance on the CBR is less than 14 days old he can cancel for free.
Cancel insurance on cbr wait till the 11th re-insure cbr with 1 years NCB , save £600 , |
