I passed my test a couple of weeks ago & went on a ride out on my new bike with a mate yesterday afternoon. He's an instructor & gave me a few useful pointers. Mine's the CBR400. Managed to keep within eyesight round the corners (most of the time) but on the straights no chance! Don't care, loved every minute.

real men park on the grass Cool

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/mamtor.jpg

if you carry on instead of forking off to the left before the road with the big hills either side, that takes you to the bottom entrance and you can ride along a bit of the collapsed road, quite easy to get airborne down there too Laughing

KLR I really, really fucking love your bike. And I normally hate the colour red. I'm sure you'll make a thread here if you ever choose to sell it right? Laughing

The CBR 400 is nice too, I like the 400 Jap sports bikes, they're fucking cool.

Hands off, I'm keeping it! Laughing

Had it for 4 years now and have no intentions of selling it at all. Still plan to put ZZR1100 cams in it yet to make it a pokier, not that it really needs it but still Twisted Evil

I did intend to ride the whole road but felt like I was pushing my luck when I got to the drop so didn't want to go much further. I only went up after watching Sven's video as I didn't realise how close I was to it.

Of the bikes available to hire (for a reasonable rate) in India, the Enfield is probably the most suited to the job. You can see exactly whats gone wrong when something (eventually) goes wrong. So you CAN fix it.

We went as a group of 6 on 4 bikes. Out of the 4 bikes, all 4 broke down at some point Laughing

Mine had a fuel lock thing that leaked when the bike was on side stand. It also had no rear brakes and VERY bad front brakes. The steering was FUBAR with the handle bars pointing one way and the wheel another.

And it had this serious death rattle noise everytime you went past 5K on the revs in any gear Laughing

Anyway, we were going from Leh to Pangong Tso and my bike made it there fine. But on the way back, about 40km from Leh, my throttle cable snapped clean in half and we were not carrying spares.

As we (pillion and I) fiddle around with this at the side of the road in pitch black darkness in a somewhat deserted village, a guy runs out to see whats happening. He considers the problem, runs back to his house and comes back with some shoe lace.

His solution was to tie one of the shoe lace to the remaining bit of throttle cable coming from the engine directly and I just hold the other end. Pull it to rev the engine, slacken to go slower.

I rode the bike around 40KM through some treacherous roads in the pitch black darkness with this set up. That trip was probably the best thing I have ever done. Keep meaning to do a write up, but can never be bothered Rolling Eyes
