Kinda good idea, but I'd rather see the roads getting fixed Razz
I do wonder about how exactly does one adapt large chunks of metal to be "safer" for bikers Thinking

Wonder how much it cost to work that little gem out Rolling Eyes

Better still remove every bit of road furniture and give us F1 sized run off on every corner Thumbs Up

The second (lower) barrier under the top one would help massively, my friend crashed his Thundercat, slid along the road and obliterated his legs on one of the barrier uprights, if they filled that gap then those sorts of injuries would be mitigated (if he'd hit it with his head rather than his legs then he would've been deaded)
Look at the barrier in the pic, with the infills:

Fucking MTFU, crash barriers do not need upgrading.
They were around before you decided to ride.

I think forcing the morons who dig up our roads to repair the damage properly would be a better campaign.

The Romans built roads 2000 years ago and they are still in place (where they haven't been dug up).
Why has road building tech not came up with road repair tech?

I know there is a procedure to make a flawless repair on roads but the lazy two-bit contractors don't need to bother their arses complying with the procedure.

Barriers? It would probably make not much difference. The stats probably don't take into account the force of impact on the barriers that are in place at present.

i'd be more than happy if they just stopped resurfacing perfectly good roads with tar and loose chippings. They certainly didnt have bikers in mind when they thought that process up Rolling Eyes

If they fixed all of the pot holes and poor road surfaces maybe less riders would fall off in the first place.

I wonder how many percent of accidents are caused by poor road surfaces?

+1 for that. They do that every summer up here and it always seems to be the best stretches of road too. Although to be fair they've started putting a sweeper over the loose stuff after a couple of days. Still a pain in the arse though, and there's always some muppet that drives over them at high speed flinging loose chippings up all over the place. Rolling Eyes

Laughing They resurfaced a pretty good road around here too with that loose shit. Although they do seem to be doing a proper job on the rest of the roads in my area too.

"Meaningless soundbites a priority." says IAM.

A spokesdrone continued: "Blah, wibble, moving forward, lessons learned, raise awareness, give us more cash."

That loose shit stuff has been plastered all over here, its fucking awful. Roads that are 30/40mph etc are covered in it (they even started at peak times Evil or Very Mad ) its so god damn evil that I almost span my car (albeit being a bit of a dick..) and would have been deadly on a motorbike Shocked

Not just one road, its everywhere. Reducing speed limits to 20mph etc etc.

Some areas they have resurfaced properly are fantastic, and I'd much rather they invest in THAT + the shell grip stuff than some barrier to be fair. That will help prevent the crash in the first place.. IMO

Don't know why, but that made me giggle a fair bit.

Crash barriers do matter btw, the different kinds can affect how fucked up you are going to be when you hit them.

personally, i'd be much happier if they'd fix all the fucking potholes round Staffordshire and run a road-sweeper up/down the A5 every now and then to clear the mud and straw off it from the tractors!

I've never understood crash barriers on flatland roads, i'd much rather land in a nice comfy field than smash into a 3ft wall

for cars put spikes (facing chest) on steering wheels

as for bikers, well, put cheese wire round their kneck and attach it to the bike

both of the above would make everyone think twice about driving / riding like a plonk wouldn't they lol

Funny how years ago they used this method and you never had any issues with it even after they had just finished... They even put the white line back straight away.....

How....

They rolled the chippings into the tar straight after laying it down.

I guess its all down to saving money. Road roller required + experianced driver + extra time taken......

Then again, when they did it round here, there were 3 of them stood around stopping traffic and having a laugh. Even trying to stop people who were turning right to avoid having to wait or go where they needed too, while they finished dicking around.
