Hi all. Went down my local scrappy with my brother earlier to get 2 wheels for his car (after some major curbing he had damaged the lip on the wheels). He managed to get some replacement alloys with decent tyres on them for £50 quid which I thought was a good deal.
Anyway more to the point, whilst they were trying to find the locking wheel nut key for the alloys, I noticed a cage full of bike tyres, so thought I'd have a look as my rear tyre is currently pushing the law a bit. So anyway, came across a Bridgestone Battlax in the right size (160/60/17 if you were wondering) with a good 5 - 6 mm of tread left and looked in good nick all round.
I was pleasantly surprised after enquiring about the price - £15! In my eyes you can't complain about that! I admit I didn't know much about the tyre, but being a Bridgestone I thought its gotta be fairly decent. So bought it and am booked in tomorrow for fitting for £10, ride in ride out, bringing the total to £25.
When I enquired the other week with a bike MOT and tyre place I was told the cheapest budget tyre with fitting would be £160, and after looking online the Battlax is somewhere in the region of £200 new.
So, assuming all goes to plan tomorrow, a nice little saving I think! Hopefully will be buying my tyres from the scrappy in future. |

Good, but go canny the first few miles.
Sometimes tyre carcasses can be damaged in a crash so just watch for any odd vibrations or waggling of the handlebars first time out. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

if theres 7mm in the centre, my guess would be someone binned there bike from pushing a new tyre too hard..hence why it was in a scrappy . Might be worth having a look for the front aswell next time your there. Its always nice having a matching pair
I usually buy my tyres second hand off ebay for £20-£30 quid. Never thought of going to a scrappy, but i think i will go have a look next time so cheers for that ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125
