Hi guys. I just tightened my chain a little and noticed this with the front wheel. Compared to the honda forks on my trike this does not look right. Is there meant to be a nut there? and if so why is there not more thread there to hold it?

Here is the other side, just a regular looking bolt.

Is there a groove running around the edge where a circlip should be?

No, it looks more like a stripped thread to my amature eye.

I've examined the whole thing more closely, there is NO evidence of the forks pulling apart, all the shims are nice and snug etc. I wonder, are the forks threaded? Thinking

EDIT: In case you don't know, its a Yamaha FZR600.

Hi

No, that is normal. The fork on the n/s is threaded and there is a pinch bolt on the o/s fork to stop it comin undone.

All the best

Keith

Just go careful when tightening up your wheel bolt on those alloy threads. I seem to remember helping a mate bodge his 125 when he'd stripped the threads in his forks, he had to buy a longer bolt (surprisingly expensive) and stick a nut on it.

Why bodge it?
Buy a torque wrench and do the job properly saves alot of hassle in the long run. Thumbs Up

Thanks, I'll remember that.

Both my trike and bazza's virago have the nut on the other side. I've never seen anything like this before.

Cheers.

What Keith said Thumbs Up

When you come to remove the wheel, don't forget to slacken the pinch bolt before trying to undo the spindle

Ha, you'll not be able to get the thought of my bike's dirty wheels out your mind now. It will gnaw at you till you break. Quick take the solution, come over and clean them for me. Laughing
