So my lovely speed four was sold to me with a spare end can, surprisingly it wasn't fitted to the bike, the previous owner said it made him feel uncomfortable at low speeds. Odd I thought, so as you do after a couple weeks I got curious and decided to swap it over and give it a try.

Now I can see where he was coming from, don't get me wrong it looks great, sounds great but Jesus do u need some clutch at low speed.

I have found it makes the bike irritatingly awkward to handle when negotiating low speed manoeuvres and traffic. Dont get me wrong I can put up with it on short blasts but I've thought why should I?!

Now I need to know what direction and choices I have to take this in;

I've looked at the possibility of tune Ecu, but il be honest I won't know what Im doing so I don't fancy taking pot luck on my new best friend.

So this leads me to my other options;

* I've been told that Triumph would load a different map for £30/40, will this solve the snatch issues?!

* The other option is I take it to a Tuners with a RR I take it?! Thing is are they going to insist on something like a power commander in order to control the fuelling or should they be able to alter the fueling directly inside the speed fours Ecu?

A few questions there I just want a bit of clarification for my own mind before I start making enquiries locally!

Don't guess with fuel injection if you don't know what you're doing, also downloading maps will very rarely suit your exact application.

It's very good value for money to take it down to a rolling road and have it properly mapped, you will get more power and torque, smoother delivery and often a few more mpg

They should be able to adjust the fueling directly with Tuneboy or equivalent software. However you will probably have to find one with the experience of the software, rather than one who is just used to flogging Power Commanders.

All the best

This is what im trying to get at, my triumph I think im right in saying doesn't need a piggy back system as the Ecu can be altered directly, I just want to be sure of the facts before I go in and look like a tit!!

What sorta money should you be paying for these services?

If anyone knows a tuner in the South West do let me know Smile

Fuel injected bikes sometimes react strangely to exhaust change. It might send them rich, or lean, or both in different parts of the rev range.

You might find a tune that will match your can quite well, but not perfectly. That's not a huge deal though because many bikes don't fuel perfectly anyway - it's up to you to decide if you're happy with the results. You could take it to a dyno and at least find out what the fuelling is doing wrong even if they don;t know how to use the tune software.

A far more satisfying route would be to get hold of a wideband datalogger, hook it up to RPM and throttle position and use that to make your own custom tune, if the software allows it. Bonus is that it will be done on the road under real riding conditions rather than on the dyno, and you can do it many times over for the investment of one piece of hardware instead of paying over and again for dyno time.

How does that work? Do you have to buy a license per'bike or something - or is it free?

The software has enough control to cover 99% of uses, however they do charge for the cable to interface but the software is pretty decent.

Where abouts are you based then you may be able to get some recommendations for places to go.

I have one of those. Barely used it then loaned it to Chr1s, he used it a time or two then it went wrong (it always was very flaky) and I sent it back to the manufacturer. In fairness, they did replace it with a new unit but I haven't had time to test that yet.

I also have a LM-1, which is the one that Chr1s used for all his datalogging on his turbo, and whilst it's a bit old-hat, and needs an add-on cable for RPM/TPS input it's been rock solid reliable.
