hi BCF!

just joined the forum and thought i'd introduce myself.
i've been using this forum sporadically for ybr issues for a while now, and seeing the worthwhile guidance and startling friendliness of my biking peers i felt no reason not to immerse myself that bit more in the biking world.

despite my 4 years with a CBT, in many respects i'm still a kid around the biking scene; whilst being aware of bikes all my life-- kind of runs in the family, dad's got a GSXR 1100 and i was touring pillion with him from my being knee-high-- i only became 'immersed' after watching the GP last year (i believe it was phillips island?) over a few beers surrounded by great company.
i thoroughly enjoyed the event, and it goes without saying that i wanted to know more, and a mate lent me Matt Oxley's fast stuff- a fantastic read by the way btw

i live in the leicester area, but work in lutterworth (i know, a great little commute first thing every morning) and i've recently taken to touring the nearby districts on my days off in anticipation of my full bike test! if all goes well i'll have these L plates off by the end of this month Very Happy

like i said i commute to lutterworth thrice (min) weekly, but also head up to thurmaston and hinckley on outreach packages (i'm a support worker) and it's sometimes necessary to support elsewhere in the midlands. on these trips i've inevitably encountered other bikers, and on one such occasion when my engine seized outside Blaby! i was suprised by all the bikers who pulled over and offered me assistance and just to check i was fine. clearly the biking scene is one of the finer aspects, and indeed more inspiring traits of the human condition. thanks to everybody whose names i forget from that day!

somewhere between the good days and the bad days, i realised the bike's become a part of me. whilst i've struggled in many departments of my life, i know i will be motorcycling for as long as i can, and to this extent i've opted for a motorcycle engineering and maintenance diploma this september! fingers crossed it'll lead to bigger and better things!

it'd be great to hear from the forum. new routes and bike suggestions are of course welcome, i'm planning on a fzr 600 after i pass my test, and in case i haven't said so, thanks to the forum for all the maintenance help i've gathered so far!
hopefully as i progress with the diploma i'll be less of a burden in that department Laughing

all the best and thanks again people!
steve

I'm in the Leicester area as well, around say, 10pm tomorrow night? We can meet up on a secluded dark car park and I will show you all my special tricks I can do, with the bike of course.

Welcome dude.

I'm from just outside Leicester myself. Look out for a green VFR.

It broke down the other day and I too saw the friendly spirit of the biking community.

See you around!

You weren't just at the Shell Garage were you, B4114 Cov Road? Laughing

I'm another one near Leicester, ~3 miles from Hinckley and ~10 from Leicester.

Was that your GS in Nuneaton Asda on Wednesday, then?

S.Speakman? Dad or Uncle called Mark? Went to Henley High School, quarter century or so ago, by any chance?

Nope, only just got back home yesterday, been suffering bike withdrawal symptoms all week seeing so many amazing biker filled roads with no bike. Laughing

My GS is a right state, you would recognise it instantly. Scuffed right panels, no right mirror and tape over the right hand side of the engine cover. Also currently leaving dribbles of oil underneath it when stopped, though, fingers crossed I fixed that today.

Nope to that too. Confused

<edit>That wasn't directed at me, was it?</edit>

You have a dople ganger in the district then... could have sworn it was yours. Full-Faired, in Blue & white, with wobbly bar ends and heated grips....

No, wasn't.... Speakman's not a common name, & I went to school with a Mark Speakman, many, many, many years ago... his Dad worked in Stratford Sign Works, the foundry that made the cast street-name signs, ISTR....

Why is it I can remember irrelevent crap like that.... but cant remember what day of the week it is?!?!?

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled! I no longer have bar ends either actually, just gaffer tape covering the holes. Not sure I've been in to Nuneaton for a month or two!

I'm very much the same. Laughing

thanks for the welcome all!

Huambo81a-- i'm sure i've seen you around!

and Teflon-Mike-- no i think you're right, probably not related. i've heard there's a lot of us speakmans! i've plently of family in glenfield and manchester, and even a few across the channel, but i've no recollection of a Mark in the family. i'll check with the elders come the Indianapolis GP next week.
