mate there is absaloutely no reason you should fail. Book it now. I had a 4 week waiting list! Buy the disc off ebay for 6 quid and do some practice so you dont piss it up the wall. It really is not hard, 50/50 on the car one and 49/50 on bike! I dont know how you could fail TBH ! Just do some practice :y:

Why buy the CD? A bit of Googling and you can find the FREE DVLA version...

Get a highway code book, read it EVERYDAY / NIGHT.

Then do it again, until you get at least + 10 of the questions required to pass right, book your theory.

If you cannot pass the mock one, you probably will struggle at the real one. So just read the highway code regularly.

And you called me pretty dumb in the other thread. Laughing

It's the theory, the easiest test of them all, you just need to put the hours in. If you can't pass the theory and can't afford the retake, I don't see how you can be on the road. Thumbs Up

If you fail the theory, you should be banned from the road period. You have nothing to worry about.

You'll be fine, its pretty hard to fail tbh. Most the questions are just common sense and the rest you will know from reading the highway code. The hazard perception bit is a farce to be fair, but as long as you click when you see any potential hazards I can't see how you can fail.

Good luck anyway.

Fella, if you're crapping yourself this much about a basic theory test, then gawd help you when you're actually on 2 wheels - and us too for that matter!!

Theory test is basically you showing that you are fully au fait with the Highway Code & can to a degree pre-see a potential danger.
Just do your revision & it's a no brainer.

You are allowed an very long time to complete the test 50+ mins & will find that provided you have done your revision you should complete it in no more than say 15-20. Thumbs Up

When I did my theory test I hadn't slept for two nights and I was slightly drunk, and had done no revision because me and my mate had been playing xbox, and I passed with quite a nice margin Laughing

The thing with the theory test is that its 50% common sense, if not more. So basically, even if you've never ever set eyes on a highway code or been on a road, you're pretty much guaranteed a start of 30 answers...then 75% of the other half is basic basic signs, which most people know anyway...so that's another 20 answers you should easily get.

That leaves you just needing to answer 3 correct out of the 10 questions that 'may' have needed to have looked at a highway code for.

Seriously, the Theory test is almost unfailable and imho should be called the Common Sense test. I mean some of the questions are ridiculous, things like:

You see an elderly person crossing the road, do you.

A) Accelerate Hard and mow them down
B) Slam your brakes on and skid loudly to get their attention
C) Stop in front of them, wind your window down and tell them to hurry up
D) Slow Down,be prepared to stop and wait patiently.

50% f the questions are seriously that obvious, you really have nothing to be worried about.

Why do you have to wait till Thursday to ring up and book?

because if you book it online, you have to pay for it when you book.

i know most of its common sense, but there are things in there that require actual knowledge.

i.e burn times, where the various color studs are on motorways, that and ones like emmision counts and stopping distances.

how many people actually remember all of the "stopping distances"?

then how many people ignore those and go by what they're used to from thier individual machines?

I never bothered learning the stopping distances, I'm no good at remembering lists of numbers like that. One did come up on my theory though and it was 1 of the 2 I got wrong.

Personally I see no point in 'real life' in knowing the bloody stopping distances. I mean, when you have to stop in an emergency do you really think to yourself " oh,that car is roughly 55 metres away and I'm travelling at 50 mph, on that reckoning I'm going to just about hit the car in front, but oh no, its raining so I must double the distance, oh no I'm screwed!...lol, no you only ever need to know the distances for a silly Common Sense test which is pretty pointless if you ask me.

i do think the theory test for motorcyclists is pointless, but hey, the dsa makes jobs for people and they need thier pay so from that perspective fair play lol

Mate burn times is 10 minutes

I cant even remember the studs on the motorway or stopping distances, but I took the page to the test centre and read those bits just before I went in Laughing

The theory test is there to make sure you know the rules before someone wastes time giving you practical instruction. There would be no point getting on the road if you couldn't obey instructions.

Just learn it all, parrot fashion. Breaking distances is the trickiest one to remember, but do that. Test yourself, get someone to test you. It's an exam, don't treat it with disdain.

I personally think it should be harder, and the hazard prescription part should be more realistic, and longer. There are too many clueless Twats on the road.

You haven't much to worry about, the test is relatively easy if you have your head screwed on.

I did my car one back in 2010. Booked Thursday evening for Saturday morning. Did some revision using a CD and flicking through the HC. Managed to get 49/50 on the multiple choice and 5 0 something/75 on the hazard perception bit.

Did the m'cycle one last week and did even less preparation, the same two day turnaround as I wanted out of the way quickly. I probably wasn't quite ready although my feedback from the online practice tests were positive. I still managed a decent 47/50 and 55/75. Not a record by any means but a pass nontheless.

You will be fine if you keep revising and keep calm and concentrate when you're in there.

BTW I do know a mate at work who has failed his theory three times Exclamation Not surprising knowing him though Rolling Eyes

well i just did a mock theory and HPT

theory 98% pass
HPT 75% pass

i think im ready for tomorow.

the only one i got wrong was "braking to hard has caused both wheels to skid, you should"

i chose "release the front then the rear" but apprently its "release both together"

which is "go figure" lol.

got one on braking distance right (woot)

got one on signs which was giving me issues right (woot) (also, no waiting at any time blue circle, red cross)

so i'll read through braking distances again tonight and tomorow before i go in and hopefully come out with a pass.

i do agree that the HPT should be harder and longer. and more realistic. like they should have indicator flashers on them for the clips where they turn.

1 hazard isnt the same if your going straight on compared to turning.

Nice one mate, remember to just leave a quick half second gap between clicking .. Incase you are spotting the hazards too early for the dvd to register (Stupid old technology Rolling Eyes )

Are you planning on doing your tests before 2013?

yup, i'll be booking my MOD1 as soon as possible.

but i really need to sell some of my computer WC gear to fund the mod 2 (theres a post in "everything else") also gives some extra funding incase of fails.

whats the deal with these damn changes anyway?

example being, 1st january MOD1 PASS, next mod 2 booking slot JAN 20th?

would you be stuck with the new rules or what?

Hang about, how old are you?

And I'm not sure of the exact date in Jan it happens, but yes, If you take your MOD 2 after the cut off then I'm assuming you will be stuck with the new rules.

Not sure how it will work.

But I don't want 5 years on a 400, so I have to pass.

No pressure Crying or Very sad

24, 25 in march.

it just seems that those who have completed a mod1 but cant get a booking before the change over for mod2 shouldnt be stuck with the new rules. because of the money side alone let alone the ethical side.

oh wait, sorry, i said ethical in a sentence referring to EU directives. my mistake lol

I'm also pretty sure you'd come under the new directive then :/

Another scenario...
Pass mod1 before 'the' date.
Mod2 also booked before said date.
Mod2 gets cancelled due to no fault of your own (weather, examiner off sick etc), next available date is after 13th Jan...
