So, how would I go about stopping theives stealing my bike, dont say alarms because i'm not sure my points ignition system will hold it Wink

ive been looking at disk locks with alarms but they will only work if its wheeled off, what if they pick the front wheel up?

I've got an alarmed disk lock, it gets set off by a bit of movement so it would sound even if the front was picked up. I asume you've not got access to a garage (?) How about a shed (?) Alarm the garage/shed if available and have a sensored security light pointing on the door, fit a ground anchor and make sure the chain you use goes trough the frame and not just the wheel.

The above won't stop the determined of course, it's all about making it hard so the less determined give up. Rolling Eyes

Best thing to do is not own a bike that gives little scrotes a raging hard on. Beyond that, the second best thing is to make it so they don't know it exists...i.e. putting it somewhere out of sight.

After that, chaining it to something solid with a fecking good chain. I don't think anything else will stop them and the chain only stops the amateurs.

My experience of bikes like that is that they will get nicked very quickly if their whereabouts is known. God I hate this country sometimes Rolling Eyes

I think it's people not expecting someone to be stupid enough to leave their keys in the bike Laughing I did it loads of times with my NSR, whenever I broke my routine and lifted the seat by putting the key in the back, I forgot about it and left the keys hanging out the back. Most of the time I didn't even realise until I was walking back and saw them hanging there.

I think the thieves prefer a challenge.

Keep it in the house. There are few lengths a wee scrote is not prepared to go to to steal a dirtbike BUT upgrading theft theft to burglary is a bit of a step up for most of them.

Boundry maintainance. Make sure they would have to climb over or break something to get at it.

CCTV.

Two different sorts of lock that take a different tool to break.

So say a big U-lock and a cable (can't hacksaw a cable, can't bolt crop a U-lock)

A padlock through the back sprocket is probably better than a disc lock and harder to cut/break if you get the right padlock.

It'll still go if they see it and want it. I had a big dirt bike stolen which was chained down to a ground anchor with as strong a chain as you could hop to own and fitted with an immobiliser. Chain cut, bike slung in a van. It turned up three days later being ragged around the local town by a wee scrote. That's a lot of effort to go to for a joyride.

The only thing more desirable to a theiving scrote is a C90.

Well... I ended up buying a 18mm D lock, a bike cover, alarmed disc lock, a 19mm Pragmasis protector from my uncle for <£20.. and 3 womens rape alarms.

That will hopefully deter them...

After each ride, completely disassemble the bike down to nut and bolt level.

Over the next few days, post the parts back to yourself from various locations around the country.

Once you've received all the parts back, reassemble the bike, ride it, then strip it down and repeat the process.

Thumbs Up

I know that you can get Datatag etc for bikes, but on a dirtbike it is not so easy.In my garage I keep everything covered up with old dust sheets etc.

With so much of the bike being plastic nowadays I have used a soldering iron to inscribe the registration number into as many parts as possible. If the bike is not road registered then use the last six digits of the VIN number.Anybody trying to sell off stolen parts may well have a difficult time explaining this point to a would be punter.

Having my CRF450 stolen (and got it back) I had a big lock and thick chain on my rear wheel and to other bikes in front of it and it still got taken,

If they want it they will have it.

Surely needing a gun to protect your stuff would make you more of a faggot?

Yeah, if you NEED a gun to defend yourself, then you must be a loser! Especially to defend yourself from an unarmed scrote...

You can get a fire arms certificate at 14 and own firearms from that age. From the age of 18 you can buy firearms and ammunition using the certificate too.

For a shotgun licence, there is no minimum age at all.

People over 18 can buy low powered air rifles and pistols without a licence. People between 14-18 can hire/use them, not buy. People under 14 can only use them on private property under supervision of someone over 21.

Yeah, but we can't buy assault rifles in Walmart. So we have no freedom*...

Tut Tut

You've been watching too many films. All you need is a cricket bat. And who doesn't own a cricket bat? That's right, Johnny Septic-Tank. Ergo, the only people who need guns to defend their homes are yanks, because they can't get a decent bat for love nor money.
