excuse the rant here but:

went round to aldi to buy some bits for dinner tonight only for thier fucking machines to say "unauthorised" tried both mine and my partners cards as its a joint account.

came back, checked the bank via online banking and it says theres a fiver in there, well my shopping only cost £2.50 for fuck sakes!

so i call the bank and the automated balance bit goes "your account balance is £114.96 OVER DRAWN!

WTF!

get through to a natwest pleb and they say "oh nothing we can do, it was a transfer out today"

bullshit! its in the first 24 hours! you can cancel it!

"it looks like its a branch transfer"

again, WHAT THE FUCK?!

neither me nor my partner can transfer money thats NOT in the account but some cunt in the branch can!

NO god damn money should have left the account today apart from £2.50 for the shopping.
definalty not over £100

"we'll have to raise a query and call you back"

considering the "problems" natwest (and a few others) have had lately this is the LAST thing you'd expect.

told em the have until close of business tomorow to get the balance restored to what it should have been.

but its a right utter joke, how the hell can they justify screwing with someones account after all the screw ups over the last incident?

fucking hate natwest.

rant over.

With Lloyds, they sold a load of branches, mine included. I got a letter to say I will be a Co op customer next year.
No fucking chance of that happening, hope you go ok with them but I wouldn't trust the Co op as far as I can spit.

or the account will be closed and solicitors brought into it if necessary.

its a simple fact that the bank should NOT have transferred over £100 out of the account.

dont know yet, but there was no direct debits setup (only have one for the 6th and thats £30 insurance)

no scheduled transfers

no card payments or anything.

as for paying for piddly amounts on the card, you telling me if you dont have any chance in your pocket and can only use natwest cash points (yes, our visa debit cards are restricted to natwest cash points for balance checks, statements and withdrawals only, google it) then you wouldnt pay for it on the card? gtfo

as far as online banking was telling me, my account was in credit and only when i called up about it did i find out it was overdrawn.

further:

it should not be overdrawn in the first place

I would ask what the amount is for and why, then come and rant if they're in the wrong.

I would bet its not a mistake by the bank though and it doesn't sound like you made the transaction.

well heres the interesting thing,

the systems have ticked over to the next day and the "transfer" is missing, but the end balance is still -£114~

there was an amount paid in, like £60, then £10 withdrawal, then close balance is -£114~

so my question to the bank is "WTF?!"

It sounds a bit odd that a transaction you know nothing of would've come out.

But, shit like this will happen if you keep an account with only £5 in and have no overdraft facility. Unless you've been a victim of fraud they are probably well within their rights to remove money from the account if they believe you have spent it.

Next time just keep an emergency fiver on you.

well the think is that the account hasnt had any problems in the last 6 months, the last time it went over drawn was my fault, but only a few quid.

this transaction is defiantly unauthorized. we're pretty careful not to spend what we dont have.

either way i'll have an answer today one way or another

Either it's fraudulant or there's a banking mistake.

Do you check your balance before you use your card? If so, this may be the cause of your issues!

Our place only processes cards at close of business, so if you came in at 10am spent £50 your card, that would only show on your statement at around 11pm, but in reality due to banking hours it would be 9am following day.

I use a few small shops for specialist stuff who only process weekly, so it can be up to 7 days before the transaction is shown on my account.

So if you was spending money as it was shown as there on the statement, then a few places have processed transactions at a later date. Remember that card transactions are NOT instant.

I keep a spreadsheet of my bills and outgoings, when I spend something I keep the receipt then put it on spreadsheet when I get home, that way I know my true balance, not just the one displayed by the bank.
