I am in Edinburgh. and am thinking of MIdlands/surrounding area, York, Scottish Borders. As the bike action is not happening up here as i would like and jobs/houses are easier to get further down.

Crick in Northamptonshire is very good for driving jobs. There is a lot of warehousing and distribution in that area and they can't get enough drivers as it is and they pay some right good hourly rates. Quite a few drivers set themselves up with jobs there, get cheap digs above pubs/rent rooms in houses, work there in the week and go 'home' for the weekends. And the best part about it is if you get on with the right driving agency and find a decent place to stay it makes the whole thing financially viable.
