PostPosted: 12:42 - 16 Aug 2012    Post subject: H100S2 Swingarm Bearings Reply with quote

Has anyone got any tips on removing the H100S2 swingarm bushes/bearings? The outer wall of where the swingarm bushes are very thin, not allowing much use of a vice press etc!

I want to get the bearings replaced before sending off to the powdercoaters. Also do I leave the bearing in for powdercoating?

Cheers

:karma: hi dude,

these are rubberised bushes??

thin metal outer wall bonded to rubber bonded to inner sleeve which the swing arm bolt goes through??

stuff which can be damaged by heat should be removed before powder coating, as coating cured by heat??

if you have new bushes, then burn the old ones out to leave the thin walled outer in the swing arm.

carefully cut slit in the wall of the outer "tube" ( of the bush NOT the swing arm ) and remove.

press new bushes in place after making right sized press tools and vice ( or draw threaded bar ).

some pics would be good.

Use a selection of sockets and a vice, or some long threaded bar and some sockets.

If they're difficult to remove, I would pull them out before powdercoating. You don't want to bash the swingarm around after powdercoating it.

You should clean up any threads and bearing surfaces after powdercoating anyway. Partly because there is a possibility of getting some powdercoat into the wrong places, but mainly because anything old and tired enough to need powdercoating probably has some rust and crap built up on threads and bearing surfaces.

Also consider if you're going to reassemble with standard bushes or something different. My 250RS uses crap plastic bushes as standard, so I replace them with either needle rollers or brass bushes, with a grease nipple fitted to keep them moving.

You should be able to rig up a puller using the swingarm pivot bolt. If you're not sure what, I mean, I can go into detail.

As requested pictures attached

In one of the photos, the inner sleeve of the bush is still stuck on the spindle while the rest is still in the swingarm!!!

well I finally got the other one out! Despite buying a new M12 studding and nuts it still wouldn't budge so I had to chisel all the way at both ends - and that was bloody hard work. Me thinks I'll invest in a hydraulic press next.....

Really need to start the show and tell me thinks, and thanks for all your help Karma
